GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Educare of Omaha, Inc. is a collaborative partnership between the Early Head Start/Head Start, Omaha Public Schools and the Buffett Early Childhood Fund. Comprised of the two Educare Omaha Schools (Kellom and Indian Hill) and the three Early Learning Centers (Skinner, Gateway and Kennedy), the mission of Educare of Omaha, Inc. is to promote school readiness by enhancing the social and cognitive development of children ages 0 to 5 through the provision of evidence-based education, health, nutritional, social, family engagement and other services to enrolled children and their families.
The Fiscal Services Director for Educare of Omaha, Inc. leads all aspects of the organization's accounting and finance functions while developing and implementing our strategic plan with a positive impact. This position will have the opportunity to build, uplift and support a financial team dedicated to aligning with our mission and values which will make a positive impact on the organization and communities it serves. The Fiscal Services Director is a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, and reports to and works closely with the Executive Director.
Schedule: This is a full-time, exempt position. The schedule is 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm with flexibility on evenings and weekends as needed. The office is located at our Early Learning Center at Skinner but services all 5 of our schools, travel between schools will be on an as needed basis.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Financial Planning and Analysis
- Provides strategic and tactical direction to both the organization and the financial and information technology functions; defines, implements, and optimizes the long-term road map and oversees the execution of goals and initiatives.
- Strategically participates in the development of the organization's business model, business plan, annual budgets, and related financial planning procedures.
- Improves fiscal management and related processes through upgrades of technology, systems, policies, and procedures.
- Oversees and ensures accurate financial reporting to the Executive Director and the Board of Directors.
- Directs the accounting & finance functions of the organization in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and maintains effective internal accounting control policies.
- Leads the accounting team using organizational values to ensure collaboration, support employee growth, and provide excellent customer service to the organization.
- Ability to build relationships with agency and community leaders and board members and discuss our financials in a way that all can understand and answer complex questions.
- Manages all aspects of the finance and accounting functions of the organization.
- Monitor, coordinate, and direct the day-to-day operations of accounting to include but not limited to month and year-end close, accounts payables/receivables, fixed asset management, general ledger, and monthly financial reports.
- Manage multiple complex grants to ensure grant budgets are well informed, only allowable costs reimbursed, grants are fully spent, and adequate cash reserves are maintained.
- Establishes and ensures the functionality, efficiency, impact and viability of the organization's financial activities and management; total oversight of all policies, procedures, practices, strategies, technology and legal, regulatory and compliance issues; ensures best practices in non-profit fiscal management.
- Oversees the organization's risk management including general liability and related insurance coverage, risk mitigation; ensures that the organization complies with all legal and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborates with the human resources team to monitor compliance, conduct compensation studies, review of total rewards program, workers compensation, etc.
- Maintains the integrity of all financial processes.
- Manages budget and forecast process, regularly reports on actual or forecasted revenues, profits, or losses; provides timely and accurate analysis and reporting of financial data and processes.
- Develops and manages reliable cash flow analysis and ensures availability of funds across the organizations and within programs, departments, and cost centers to meet operating needs; partners with relevant staff to create annual budgets for programs, departments, and cost centers.
- Oversee annual audits and other federal financial reviews on time and with minimal or no adjustments.
- Maintain and administer written accounting policies and procedures that reflect current laws and guidelines and strengthen internal controls.
- Employee is seen as an ambassador to the organization.

- Demonstrates ability to be flexible and adaptable to changing work conditions and/or project requirements.

- Adheres to all organizational policies, procedures, regulations as well as the expected code of conduct and ethics relating to IT security, OPS User Agreement, and Confidentiality.
- Maintains professional appearance and attire.
- Punctual and reliable attendance at the assigned work location.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Requires strong knowledge and experience in accounting and finance.
- Experience using financial software to its potential and customizing reports, like Blackbaud Financial Edge.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Results oriented, self-motivated with strong time management, systems development and planning skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, public and community relation skills.
- Ability to serve as a successful participant on the Executive Leadership Team that provides organizational guidance and direction, in coordination with the board of directors.
- Not-for-profit accounting experience preferred.
- Progressively responsible accounting/financial experience and leadership experience.
- Eight or more years of managerial/supervisory experience.
EDUCATION
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university in accounting.
