Join the Accounting team as the Grant Accountant, Lead. The Grant Accountant, Lead role will be mentoring and overseeing the financial aspects of grant-funded projects within the Agency. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with grant requirements, accurate financial reporting, budget management, and effective communication with internal teams and external stakeholders. This position involves supervisory responsibilities, requiring you to lead and mentor a team of grant accountants while maintaining a high standard of financial integrity.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • One (1) year of experience in bank and account reconciliations and general ledger maintenance
  • Valid Texas Driver's License

  • You have the ability to research CFR Guidance, understand, and apply complex federal, state, local, and other laws, regulations and guidelines to various accounting, payroll, and grant related functions and procedures

What you Deliver
  • You will manage the financial aspects of grant-funded programs, private or federal funding, from initiation to closeout. Monitor grant budgets, expenses, and revenues to ensure compliance with funding source regulations and guidelines. Prepare financial reports, including budget vs. actual analysis, to provide insights to Program Managers and leadership. Prepares monthly, quarterly and closeout billings and reports as needed for each grant using various defined formats by the funding agency meeting required deadlines and submits billings for grants in a timely manner.
  • You will be collaborating with Program Director to develop accurate and realistic grant budgets. Monitor budget performance and variances, providing recommendations for adjustments as needed. Ensure that budget modifications and amendments are processed accurately and in a timely manner.
  • You will ensure compliance with all grant requirements, including financial reporting, invoicing, and documentation. Prepare and submit financial reports, invoices, and statements to funding agencies or partners according to established deadlines.
  • You will lead a team of grant accountants, providing guidance, mentorship, and feedback. Distribute tasks, set priorities, and ensure efficient workflow within the team. Conduct training sessions to enhance the team's knowledge of grant accounting regulations and best practices.
  • You will communicate effectively with external stakeholders, such as funding agencies, auditors, and partners, to address inquiries and provide necessary information.
  • You will facilitate internal and external audits related to grant-funded projects, ensuring all required documentation is readily available. Address audit findings and maintain accurate records of audit-related activities. Maintain Grant Archives, including contracts, amendments, and closeouts for use in official Audit preparation. Maintain financial security by following internal controls and established policies.
  • You will prepare reports for Board of Directors and Committees as well as internal reports for department and executive team.
  • You will act as backup for duties performed by other accountants within the department.
  • You will perform other duties as required by supervisor.
