The selected candidate will also be familiar with traffic signal timing and traffic signal system operations. Requires a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, engineering or a closely related field. Proficiency in traffic engineering software and modeling tools (e.g., Synchro, VISSIM , AutoCAD) required.

  • Engineer II requires a minimum of 2 years experience
  • Engineer III requires a minimum of 5 years of experience in traffic engineering, including traffic modeling and technical leadership. Engineer III also requires a Professional Engineer license.
Virginia DEQ Certified Plan Reviewer and/or Program Administrator for SWM is required within 12 months of employment.

Required Qualifications
VOCATIONAL / EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT : Requires a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a closely related field.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT :
  • Engineer II requires a minimum of 2 years experience
  • Engineer III requires a minimum of 5 years of experience in traffic engineering, including traffic modeling and technical leadership.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES : Requires a valid driver's license and a driving record that is in compliance with City Driving Standards . Engineer-In-Training ( EIT ) or Professional Engineer (PE) license desired for Engineer II. Engineer III requires a PE license.

Virginia DEQ Certified Plan Reviewer and/or Program Administrator for SWM is required within 12 months of employment.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS : Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
