AACR Project Genomics, Evidence, Neoplasia, Information, Exchange (GENIE) is a publicly accessible international cancer registry of real-world data assembled through data sharing between 22 leading international cancer centers. Through the efforts of strategic partners Sage Bionetworks and cBioPortal, the registry aggregates, harmonizes and links clinical-grade, next-generation cancer genomic sequencing data with clinical outcomes obtained during routine medical practice from cancer patients treated at these institutions with the goal of improving clinical decision making and catalyzing clinical and translational research (www.aacr.org/genie).

Job Summary:

The AACR Project GENIE Coordinating Center (GCC) is seeking a scientist, clinical researcher, or epidemiologist with program or project management experience to both develop new, and manage, an existing portfolio of clinical research projects using the existing GENIE infrastructure, as well as projects that enhance the GENIE infrastructure. The ideal candidate knows oncology and/or cancer biology; is an experienced project/program manager; highly organized; able to work with individuals ranging from technical experts to senior management; functions independently and in diverse teams; is customer facing; and has a proven track record of meeting deadlines and deliverables.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with all members of the GENIE Coordinating Center to ensure the smooth and timely day-to-day operations of an international, open-source cancer registry, including management of specific scientific subprojects.
  • Oversee the development of detailed project plans (scope, milestones, roles & responsibilities, timing, budget, communication and interface with any external alliance or collaborator partner organizations, etc.).
  • Collaborates with AACR Finance and other departments as necessary to develop and manage individual project budgets and ensure integration with overall Coordinating Center budget.
  • Oversee the management of multiple projects, including oversight of external collaborations, ensuring goals and deadlines are reached.
  • Oversees the project management staff, ensuring clear priorities and responsibilities are delineated and that they are coordinated with the Coordinating Center priorities.
  • Sets annual performance and professional development goals; meets with direct reports monthly to review and adjust as necessary.
  • Regularly reviews project execution and deploys processes improvement when necessary to increase efficiency and maintain or improve internal and external collaborations.
  • Leads project management meetings, cross-functional communication and decision-making, ensuring alignment with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Manage the daily logistical operations of GENIE including but not limited to contracting and billing, data uploads, effective operations of the GENIE Genomic and Analytical Working Groups, relevant subcommittees, and the GENIE internal and external website.
  • Develop and send communications to project participants, strategic partners, and sponsors.
  • Works collaboratively with the Senior Director and heads of business development and clinical operations to ensure effective project operations and direction.
  • Reenforces the project direction and operating cadence and culture set by the Senior Director. Ensures teamwork and collaboration are occurring efficiently.
  • Works with Senior Director to support project governance through the Executive and Steering Committees and External Advisory Board.
  • Work collaboratively with the Coordinating Center Team members to develop and execute the GENIE Summits, BPC Symposia, and other critical meetings.
  • Manages the GENIE Coordinating Center in the absence of the Senior Director.
  • Reports directly to the GENIE Coordinating Center Senior Director.

Job Qualifications

  • Five or more years of experience managing large-scale, multi-departmental or multi-institutional scientific or clinical projects.
  • Working/functional knowledge of clinical research.
  • Working/functional knowledge of genomics, preferably clinical genomic testing.
  • Working/functional knowledge of project management with demonstrated competence using modern project management platforms to achieve deliverables.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills with demonstrated attention to detail.
  • Must be able to prioritize, multi-task, and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent administrative, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Proven ability to interact with diverse external stakeholders ranging from technical individuals to management.
  • Proactive, self-motivated, self-directed, detail oriented, flexible, and data driven.
  • Proven ability to coordinate multiple, simultaneous, and diverse workflows, while meeting deadlines.
  • Authorized to work in the United States on a continuous basis

Education Requirements

PhD, MD, or equivalent, including health informaticians, epidemiologists/population health researchers, with a background and working knowledge of cancer genomics, or related fields.
