U- is seeking an experienced patient advocacy leader who will support the companys commitment to building strong relationships with patient and policy advocacy communities. Specifically, the incumbent will be responsible for developing strategic alliances in the policy advocacy space with a particular focus on Medicaid, public policy, access, and health equity tied to Us leadership ambitions in hidradenitis suppurativa (HS), a chronic and severe dermatologic disease, as well as other chronic diseases. They will support Us commitment to building strong and trusting relationships with professional, policy, and patient advocacy organizations.
Principal responsibilities include cultivating key advocacy relationships and partnership opportunities that are focused on improving patient access and health outcomes in private and private insurance programs. In collaboration with multiple internal stakeholders including Us market access, policy, commercial, and medical leaders, the incumbent will support the advancement of short- and long-term strategies to enable Us support of people living with HS as well as other severe and chronic diseases to support the development of innovative payer, access, and Medicaid solutions and programs to meet the specific needs of the patient and caregiver communities.
Additionally, the incumbent will manage internal processes to ensure smooth interactions between Us patient advocates, external organizations, and U-, proactively driving ongoing internal communication about the advocacy program and strategy, representing the company at external advocacy-centric meetings and at other related events.
Job Responsibilities
? Effectively working to define strategic advocacy plans in HS as well as other chronic diseases, aligning objectives and goals that develop trusting relationships with advocacy organizations that improve Medicaid and insurance access as well as health outcomes.
? Build and nurture coalitions with HS and allied organizations to support value-driven healthcare throughout the entire healthcare ecosystem.
? Identify opportunities with third parties to develop highly targeted and localized public affairs campaigns such as contributing to op-eds and communications campaigns as well as building local advocacy relationships as appropriate.
? Identify partnering opportunities that focus on improving patient access and advancing insurance and public policies to support programs for patients and enhance patient health.
? Focus on empowering patients and other stakeholders to advocate for access to appropriate care and sound policies that enable care including preparing for testimony before panels (e.g., Medicaid, FDA, insurance companies).
? Pull-through national advocacy strategy at the local level in concert with the state government relations, Medicaid, and field reimbursement teams with local advocacy organizations, offering advocacy guidance and direction on best practices.
? Actively position U- as a leading company and voice in equitable access in HS and other chronic diseases, while also demonstrating true partnership with advocacy organizations.

? Manage compliance and contracting to assure that funding and programs with advocacy groups meet pre-established legal and regulatory guidelines.
? Maximize value of external partners (i.e. vendors/agencies) in a cost effective manner.
? Drive ongoing internal communication about the HS and Medicaid advocacy strategy within U- in partnership with Corporate Affairs and Market Access.
Required Qualifications
? Bachelors degree required. Masters degree preferred 6 to 10+ years experience in advocacy, communications, government relations, and/or consumer marketing, non-profit leadership. Experience in healthcare, pharmaceutical or medical field preferred.
? Experience in building and executing highly targeted public affairs campaigns involving Medicaid and insurance companies.
? Demonstrated ability to work across multiple functions to deliver results with the ability to influence diverse stakeholders. Ability to manage day-to-day projects related to the advocacy strategy and to work independently.
? Strong analytical skills, able to clearly interpret and distill complex access challenges and theorize / execute solutions.
? Ability to influence and gain prompt consensus from internal and external partners.
? Team player mentality and collaborative.
? Excellent project management and communication skills, including strong writing and public speaking skills.
Successful candidates should be self-starters who are willing and able to take responsibility and ownership for following and analyzing key issues from a quantitative perspective, and are able to produce timely and high-quality work with limited supervision.
