About the Role
As a key member of AESC US LLC, you will play a crucial role in advancing our mission to lead in full-value-chain battery solutions for a sustainable future. Reporting to the Director of Engineering, your work within the Global Industrial Development will directly impact our strategic goals and contribute to our position as a global leader in battery technology.
Key Performance Indicators
- Develop building and fire code compliance documents and fire life safety designs for new production lines / materials and other improvement in the facility
- Support EHS on hazardous material analysis for code compliances purposes, such as chemical classification, chemical quantity analysis, chemical inventory management, and related system design support.
- Develop and create fire protection system design criteria for new production lines / materials and other improvements in the facility
- Review and comment on shop drawing design packages developed by contractors.
- Review work instructions, equipment, and current work practices to identify the need for additional controls.
- Drive corrective action resolution with a hands-on and innovative approach to problem-solving.
- Partner in training sessions and information flow down sessions.
- Learn risk assessments processes and drive improvement.
- Evaluate and oversee outcomes from detailed risk assessment processes to drive action resolution (e.g. detailed engineering evaluations, project cost assessments, proposals to key decision-makers, etc.)
What You Will Do
Fire Protection Manager/Engineering SME: Serve as main point of contact on assigned projects for all design-related questions, and provide technical expertise and guidance, from inception through design, construction, to turn-over phase. Manage and coordinate projects, ensuring delivery within budget, schedule, and quality requirements. Interface with local AHJ on as needed basis for permitting and/or inspections.
Quality Assurance: Conduct periodic quality control reviews to assess compliance and address any deficiencies or deviations. Perform QAQC of project interim deliverable packages (30%, 60%, 90%, IFC). Ensure adherence to design standards, codes, regulatory requirements, and client design requirements.
Stakeholder / Client / Team Coordination: Foster positive and collaborative relationships with clients, understanding their needs and providing exceptional customer service. Collaborate with multiple cross-functional teams, including cross-disciplined engineers (C/S/A/M/P/LV), stakeholders, and contractors to drive solutions, develop comprehensive project plans and design strategies. Provide support in the development and maintenance of design standards and guidelines as needed. Participate in project meetings, presentations, and progress reports, effectively communicating project status, issues, and recommendations.
Construction Administration: Conduct project site visits as required for monitoring progress, quality, adherence to design standards, and turnover acceptance/Punch List as Owner’s Rep. Provide oversight, address, and resolve construction-related issues and change orders as required, making informed decisions that balance design intent, cost implications, and project goals.
Contracts: Assist in the preparation and negotiation of contracts and agreements with contractors, consultants, and/or suppliers. Review contracts to ensure compliance with project requirements and contractual obligations.
What You Need
- Bachelor's degree in Fire Protection required.
- Registered Fire Protection (PE) required.
- 10 plus years of experience in overseeing Owner’s Capital Development projects in either medical, industrial, and/or scientific laboratory facilities, through entire project life cycle, from inception to turn-over.
- Demonstrated experience in the following:
- Life Safety / Means of Egress code analysis, including smoke modeling and rationale analysis.
- AHJ interface for permitting and/or inspection.
- Hazardous materials analysis (HMIS and HMMP)
- High-pile storage analysis and design, including Commodity Fire Classification
- In-rack equipment fire suppression design
- Clean Agent fire suppression system design
- Fire alarm design
- CSI Specifications coordination
- Possess experience in Type I or Type II Construction types, either new construction/group-up and/or remodel.
- Knowledge of the following:
- IBC, IFC, and NFPA.
