The Position:

The Associate Director of Operations role is an opportunity to support a growing team at a mission-driven public charter school. This position provides critical leadership, planning, and support for operations and enrollment and the Associate Director of Operations serves as a key member of the school leadership team. Although the Associate Director of Operations works closely with their supervisor, this position is expected to exercise a high degree of initiative and take on significant responsibility with outstanding attention to detail and execution in all aspects of the role. An ideal candidate will be comfortable working simultaneously on multiple critical operations projects and initiatives, is detail-oriented, and has background knowledge in non-profit or school operations. This individual has a deep passion for serving and supporting staff and scholars to reach their goals. They work relentlessly to ensure that all stakeholders have access to key resources and a clean, well-maintained building. This position reports to the Director of Finance and Operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a member of the School Leadership Team to uphold DC Scholars' core values, model a growth mindset, and focus on priorities, all in support of the DC Scholars mission.
  • Set a strong vision and clear expectations for the DC Scholars Operations team. Work collaboratively with team members to provide supervision, coaching, and development; define goals for each of these areas; and evaluate each team member's performance and achievement of goals that uphold the DC Scholars mission.
  • Supervise the Operations Team members to provide high-quality oversight and support of facilities, health, safety and security, enrollment, procurement, food services, and the front office operations while also performing critical tasks related to these roles.
  • Create, obtain, or improve systems and operational practices necessary to enable DC Scholars to provide the highest quality education for our community.
  • Ensure all pre-existing or new Operations systems are codified and organized so that they are clear and accessible.
  • Engage in leadership team meetings, data analysis and action planning, and annual strategic planning related to school operations.
  • Plan and lead school-wide professional development for areas related to Operations.
Background and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • At least three years of work experience in a similar, school-based role and two or more years of people management experience
  • Exceptional communication skills and ability to quickly build rapport and foster positive relationships
  • Experience developing strong project plans with acute attention to the smallest details to ensure smooth, predictable, and effective outcomes
  • Ability to manage up and across while assessing team and school needs to identify areas for collaboration
  • Ability to relentlessly pursue goals, and work through obstacles
  • A high degree of initiative in resolving problems and implementing solutions in a fast-paced environment
