**Director of WISE Honors Program**
**Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume)**:
Master’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Four years of full-time related administrative experience in an educational setting. Experience managing a program with an academic component.
**Preferred Qualifications**:
Education, research, and/or professional experience in a STEM field. Related higher education experience in advising, teaching, admissions, or student services working with undergraduates. Experience with budget management. Experience with professional staff and student assistant supervision. Experience interacting with high achieving students. Experience interacting with diverse student populations.
**Brief Description of Duties**:
The Director provides leadership and administrative oversight for the Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) Honors Program to achieve the program’s mission and priorities. Under the direction of the Assistant Dean for University Honors Programs, the Director takes initiative and responsibility for effectively managing operational functions to ensure program integrity and quality. Main areas of program management include admissions, academic advising and registration, academic progress and degree clearance, curriculum, budget, assessment, campus events and programming, alumni affairs and advancement, and supervision. The Director provides academic advising, teaches a first-year seminar, and coordinates WISE practicum courses. The Director interacts effectively with individuals at various levels within an institution, as well as the general public. The Director works productively and collaboratively within the University Honors Programs team and possesses excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
**Duties**:
- **Program Management and Supervision**:
- Provide leadership and demonstrate a commitment to advancing and achieving the program’s mission and priorities.
- Manage program operations to include the budget and expenditures, scholarships and awards, activities and events, including Admitted Student Days, Orientation, Senior Symposium, Senior Banquet, Graduation, and faculty colloquia, assessment and reports, alumni affairs and fund-raising, and communications.
- Oversee WISE website and social media.
- Train and supervise professional staff and graduate assistant(s).
- Oversee, or delegate oversight of, student assistants and student committees.
- Prepare budget and annual reports.
- Assess student retention and satisfaction in the program.
- Support student research opportunities and leadership development.
- Expand and leverage STEM networking and partnerships.
- Stay current on best practices and the professional literature on honors education.
- **Academic Advising and Student Support**:
- Manage academic advising and new student registration for the program.
- Oversee advisee caseloads among WISE staff and monitor advising hours, outreach, and quality of service.
- Provide high quality, proactive academic advising in individual and group sessions.
- Produce advising-related resources.
- Cultivate WISE community and develop programming in collaboration with other University Honors Programs and campus partners.
- Monitor students’ academic progress toward timely degree completion and promote student success and belonging.
- Track students’ academic standing and compliance with program requirements and notify students who lose program eligibility.
- Clear students for graduation.
- Monitor enrollment numbers and address retention issues.
- Proactively support students of concern.
- Schedule advising appointments and document student progress notes in Navigate.
- **Curriculum and Teaching**:
- Oversee WISE curricular and co-curricular offerings to ensure students are able to fulfill program requirements.
- Monitor seat and course availability.
- Schedule courses and assign instructors.
- Hire and supervise WSE 101 instructors and teaching assistants.
- Oversee, or delegate oversight of, WISE thesis/capstone processes, including registration, letter of intent, progress and submission, and Senior Symposium.
- Prepare, or oversee the preparation of paperwork associated with instructor, staff, and student hires.
- Maintain a repository of course syllabi and evaluations.
- Support course instructors on teaching matters and student issues.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to identify research/internship/experiential learning opportunities for WISE students.
- Teach a first-year seminar and coordinate Practicum courses.
- Provide oversight for research rotations and experiences as part of the WISE curriculum.
- **Admissions**:
- Collaborate with Honors College and University on the selection process for Scholars for Medicine and Dental Medicine.
- Collaborate with Admissions and the Assistant Dean on admission decision criteria and enrollment targets.
