Lead Bankruptcy Specialist

**What you'll do in this role**:
As a Lead Bankruptcy Specialist, you’ll preserve assets by controlling delinquent loan accounts, collecting delinquent loan payments, and/or recovering collateral. Work with investors on loss mitigation activity to ensure we are compliant with their loss mitigation processes, rules and timelines. You’ll also preserve security interest and assist when bankruptcy matters are involved with real estate and lending portfolios.

**Main Responsibilities**:

- Ensuring all accounts are coded in the core system within one business day of notice receipt to ensure proper tracking measures are in place and internal notification procedures adhere to local, state and federal bankruptcy statutes.
- Reviewing bankruptcy notices such as petitions, claims, motions, affidavits and schedules in collaboration with attorneys, management, and members in order to take appropriate action within specified time frames conducive to the interest of the credit union.
- Recommending and preparing legal action in order to mitigate loss to the credit union. Providing support to their peer group and CCU business partners within bankruptcy proceedings by attaining lift of stay prior to discharge allowing for the credit union to secure collateral attached to delinquent loans.
- Reviewing Chapter 13 plans as it relates to the course of Bankruptcy timelines looking after the best interest of creditors rights, ensuring Trustee payments, post and pre-petition amounts due are received in accordance with all receivables included in the Chapter 13 plans.
- Reviewing Chapter 7 filings, Member intent and creditor meetings prior to discharge and post discharge to protect the contractual security interest of the organization.
- Filing, tracking, and maintaining necessary documentation with the courts to protect CCU’s interests. Conducting reviews of court ordered debt restructurings to make certain the credit union is repaid in fairness. Working collaboratively with Collections Leadership and other internal CCU Partners to reconcile loan repayment records after confirmation.
- Staying informed of PACER filing requirements, use of PACER system and bankruptcy legislation. Including all changes in state and federal regulations to ensure any/all filing dates and timelines are followed correctly to protect CCU’s interest. In addition, responsible for the design and implementation of changes to internal policy and procedure as dictated by the bankruptcy governing bodies.
- Recommending accounts previously in discharge or dismissed bankruptcy status for recovery to 3rd party recovery agencies.
- Working with an estate, surviving spouse, or probate attorney on a regular basis in order to facilitate an acceptable resolution for both parties.
- Leading day-to-day communication and performance of 3rd Party CCU Partners as it pertains to bankruptcy accounts.

**Qualifications**:

- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- 5+ years’ experience in Mortgage Collection, Modification and Foreclosure, Bankruptcy or related
- Strong knowledge of legal terminology and bankruptcy timelines regarding consumer loan collections
- Passion for learning and to help others learn and develop
- Dependable and flexible with a mindset of being open to change
- True passion for service, superior judgment, and excellent communication skills
- Flexibility to work 40+ hours per week and be scheduled between the following hours: Monday-Friday 8:30am-5:00pm
