- Experience in interviewing, hiring, supervising, training, and appraising staff performance impartially and responsibly. (required)
- Experience includes managing employee relations, position classification, compensation, training, employment, and performance management, all integrated into Institute operations. (required)
- Experience in solving complex workplace, interpersonal and employee relations issues, by fostering partnerships and building consensus with coordinating units and campus HR (required)
- Experience with the UCLA Financial and Human Resource Systems; UC Path, JDXpert, and iCIMS or equivalent demonstrated experience. (required)
- Familiarity with Academic Personnel policy and procedures for non-senate academic appointments. (required)
- Experience and/or demonstrated leadership and expertise in human resources, including management and/or supervisory experience in a Department, research, higher education or other public entity. (preferred)
- Ability to work independently, use discretion and judgment to make informed decisions, carry out action plans, and recognize when input is needed from outside sources, including the CFO and Senior Executive Director. (required)
- Ability to interpret and follow policy and maintain a high level of confidentiality and discretion in performing duties. (required)
- Skill in analyzing information, problems, situations, practices, or procedures to define the problem or objective; identify relevant concerns or factors; formulate logical and objective conclusions; recognize alternatives and their implications. Interpret and implement policies and procedures. (required)
- Skill in setting priorities which accurately reflect relative importance of job responsibilities in order to complete work in timely manner when there are changes in workload, deadlines and competing requirements and perform with frequent interruptions and/or distraction. (required)
- Ability to collect and analyze data, form opinions and recommendations, and prepare reports related to personnel and staffing, including informational material for the CFO, Senior Managing Director, Director, and Executive Committee based on available data. (required)
- Demonstrated ability to work proficiently with desktop databases and spreadsheets to create ad hoc reports and operate a personal computer using Microsoft word processing, spreadsheet, and database software. (required)
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, faculty, and students; communication effectively with individuals and groups with different interests and social, educational, and professional backgrounds. (required)
- Ability to supervise CNSI staff's work in delegating appropriate assignments, monitoring workflow, and providing overall guidance. (required)
- Ability to set appropriate short—and long-term organizational goals, utilizing consultative and/or participative processes, seeking input from faculty, staff, and university administrative units, and formulating strategies and work plans to achieve the goals. (preferred)
- Working knowledge of University policy and procedures on human resource management, informational and service resources; ability to interact with various supporting units to produce desired information and/or results; skill in discerning applicability. (preferred)
- Working knowledge of university health plans, retirement programs, parking and commuter services policies, and other university benefits, including mortgage assistance and employee benefit programs. (preferred)
- Detailed working knowledge of UCPath, personnel forms, academic personnel policies and procedures, and ability to process online entries and forms required to accomplish various staff/academic personnel transactions. (preferred)

Education, Licenses, Certifications, & Professional Affiliations:

- Bachelor's Degree in human resource management or other field related to the management of personnel and payroll or equivalent experience/training. (required)
