Field Leader- Houston Youth Conservation Leadership

**Position Summary**

Houston Youth Conservation Leadership Corps is a six-week hands-on workforce readiness program summer program for local youth ages 15-19.

**Schedule**

June 10, 2024 - August 23, 2024

**Key Duties and Responsibilities**

SCA Houston's Summer crew will be made up of 5 youth members aged 15-19 and 2 adult mentor crew leaders. The program will primarily work in the following locations: local green spaces managed by the City of Houstons natural resources department, USFWS Trinity River, and FURR H.S's Urban Farm with occasional environmental education trips. This program is an entry level position to connect young people with nature. The program is 75% conservation fieldwork, which can include improving trails, managing invasive species, and planting native species. The remainder of the program, 25%, is environmental education, leadership development, and workforce readiness. Participants need no prior experience but need to have a desire to work outside in all weather conditions and be willing to engage in team-building activities. This program meets Monday-Friday, 8:00 am-4:00 pm. There will be an option to attend a camping trip during the program. That trip will take place during the work week.

**Marginal Duties**

Administrative duties such as budget management, data collection, program reporting and incident management. Leaders will also be in regular communication with site partners and SCA staff.
