The person who fills this teaching assistant position will divide their time between the library media center and 9th & 10th-grade reading classes. The library assistant interacts positively with instructors, staff, and students while facilitating the smooth and efficient operation of the library media center. The assistant works professionally, individually, and collaboratively to provide high-quality library services. These services include assistance with the librarys educational and technical resources, materials circulation, book processing, teaching support, record keeping, displays and activities, clerical duties, and student supervision.

In the reading classroom, the paraprofessional will supervise students as they read independently or work on a computer program while the literacy specialist works with students next door in small groups. Troubleshooting computer issues and keeping students on task are the main duties. Redirect as necessary.Assist students and teachers with library technology including e-books, audiobooks, databases, and other online resources.Serve as a teaching assistant during library classes and for student walk-ins.Plan, set up, and maintain themed displays and activities. Assist with library digital communications and the library media center website.Track and order supplies.Ensure that the library space is neat and orderly.Manage the copy machine (teach students how to use the copier, troubleshoot, maintain paper supplies, etc.).Complete maintenance and IT requests; follow up.Maintain and set up supplies (paper, pencils, coloring, games, activities, etc.).Assume library media center responsibilities in the absence of the library media specialist.Reading Class Paraprofessional: Encourage struggling readers while managing classroom routines and expectations.Assist students with book selection at the appropriate level and interest.Support students with essay writing as sophomores prepare for MCAS testing.Provide supports as indicated on student IEPs and 504s.Communicate with parents and special education teachers to monitor student progress.Assume classroom responsibilities in absence of teacher.Knowledge and or experience with READ 180 a plus.CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENTEquipment Used: Copier, fax machine, smart board, phone, computer.
