Ability to view computer screens and read both alphabetical and numerical sequences on library materials.
- Proficiently operate and handle equipment such as keyboards, mice, printers, and copiers.
- Lift, place, and retrieve books from high shelving units.
- Use a step stool or alternative methods to access library materials.
- Perform essential tasks that involve moving materials weighing up to 40 lbs and standing for extended periods.

Internship Overview:

The intern will engage with archival materials in the Kentucky Room focusing on Black Studies.

The intern is required to undergo a criminal background check and participate in the library's orientation for new employees. Adherence to the library's dress code and professional conduct is expected. The intern's schedule will be flexible within the library's operational hours, but must be coordinated with library staff. Any non-emergency schedule changes should be communicated at least one week in advance.

During the internship, the student will:

- Gain insights into general archival practices from a Kentucky Room Librarian.
- Complete a training assessment related to Kentucky Room resources.

Potential Projects Include:

- Undertaking at least one digitization project for the library's collection.
- Scanning and editing images.
- Inputting metadata into digitization software.
- Contributing to public resources and walking tours.
- Developing finding aids for digital collections.
- Assisting in the description of uncatalogued collections as time and staffing allow.
- Researching articles and resources for inquiries directed to the library's reference service under the guidance of a Librarian.

The intern will be required to submit a reflective paper summarizing their learning experiences during the internship to their Faculty Supervisor at the conclusion of the academic term.

Required Skills and Knowledge:

Basic computing skills, information organization, and a background in Black Studies or History is advantageous.
