Maintenance Technician

To keep LPL progressing forward, the Maintenance Technician performs skilled and semi-skilled building maintenance and repair work of moderate difficulty. The skill trades include carpentry, plumbing, painting, electrical, tile, carpet and landscaping. Operates vans, trucks, tractors, snow removal equipment, sorts mail, library materials and other cargo. Provides maintenance, courier service and snow removal to the library facilities.
Starting Hourly Pay Range
$16.32 - $22.26 (starting wage will depend upon skills and experience)
Primary Work Schedule
Tuesday - Saturday, 8:00am - 4:00pm
Position may require occasional schedule changes for snow removal, special projects, emergencies, etc.

As a Full-time Maintenance Technician, a typical day may include the following...
- Repairs plumbing fixtures, unstops toilets and sinks; replaces faucets, toilet seats, and ball cock assembles.
- Performs minor electrical repairs.
- Paints and repairs drywall / wallboard.
- Runs errands and picks up supplies
- Performs various courier duties.
- Repairs and maintains Library vehicles.
- Operates lawnmowers, snow removers, tractors, and various hand and power tools.
- Interact and communicate pleasantly and effectively with diverse customers and staff, maintaining a positive and professional demeanor and providing friendly courteous service.
- Other duties as assigned.
- High school degree or GED required.
- Ability to learn or good knowledge of building, maintenance, and repair requirements.
- Ability to learn or good knowledge of general building trade techniques, methods, and materials.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with others.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle in a safe and efficient manner.
- Ability to operate tools in a safe and efficient manner.
- Must successfully pass a background investigation.
- Must have a valid driver's license, with a safe driving record.
- Courses in building and mechanical trades, and some experience in building construction or maintenance work, electricity and plumbing preferred.
- Entry-level experience in building construction or maintenance-related work, electricity or plumbing preferred.

Physical and Mental Requirements
- Sufficient physical strength and ability necessary to perform strenuous and heavy manual work under various weather conditions.
- Sufficient mobility and dexterity to climb ladders to change light bulbs, etc.
- Ability to perform essential functions which require bending, crawling, lifting moderately heavy equipment, and standing for long periods.
- Ability to push, pull and lift up to 40 pounds unassisted and 40 pounds and greater with assistance.
- Ability to work in high places.
Hazards/Unusual Working Conditions
- Work is often performed in and around books, shelves, and computers requiring adherence to industry safety procedures and standards.
- Work is subject to changing requirements, demands from users, and at times, dealing with the public.
- Work involves physical labor, use of machinery and tools, and exposure to elements when outside.
