The Center for Workforce Inclusion is recruiting for a Specialist Events Assistant position within the Experience Service Program (ESP) that provides support to the United States Department of the Interior_, _National Capital Parks-East in Washington, DC.

**Role and Responsibilities**:This is an exciting opportunity for a year-long internship where you can:

- Experience a variety of National Park Service Sites that include historic house museums, an aquatic garden, recreational sites, a farm, forts and neighborhood parks.
- Be on the forefront of exciting events
- Learn great skills or expand your portfolio by getting experience in budging, event planning and logistics, working with partners, marketing, etc.
- Be an integral part of a dynamic team.

The Special Event Assistant will work with the park’s Special Event Manager to help plan and execute a variety of special events and special programs for National Capital Parks-East which is headquartered in Anacostia Park in Washington, DC. This portfolio includes multiple park sites in Washington, DC and Prince Georges County, Maryland such as Anacostia Park, Frederick Douglass National Historic Site, Fort Washington and Oxon Hill Farm. Annual events include the Lotus and Water Lily Festival at Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens, Anacostia Park Late Skates, Mary McLeod Bethune’s Birthday Celebration, Campfire programs at Greenbelt and Oxon Hill Farm’s “Eggstravaganza.” All park events are planned with interpretive/ educational themes and objectives and are planned to meet NPS accessibility guidelines.

The Special Event Assistant will gain wide ranging experience in this position that will include:

- Developing events centered on interpretive themes and messages
- Operational and logístical planning and execution
- volunteer recruitment and management,
- creating safety plans,
- experience in Incident Command,
- event marketing,
- budgeting, and tracking expenses
- excellent organizational skills,
- outstanding written and verbal communication skills,
- mastery of the programs in Microsoft Office suite
- excellent customer service skills and experience working with the public.
- An ability to coordinate multiple aspects of a project. For events that often includes things such as planning, purchasing, communications, maintenance, operations, etc.
