- and post-award administration and related accounting duties. The AD interacts with principal investigators and sponsors in the areas of financial reporting, invoicing, and general problem resolution. The AD will interface with the legal department on sponsored research agreements, such as non-disclosure, material transfer and data use agreements. This role will serve as a key component of the VRI audit committee and will serve as the backup to the Senior Director for general administrative issues impacting both VRI locations.

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Serves as the administrative head for VRI locations, and as a backup for the Director for matters related to VRI overall. Leads the administration of VRI as a single point of contact for sponsored and non-sponsored related administrative needs
- Interprets and applies sponsor requirements, including federal regulations such as uniform guidance, federal cost accounting standards, and other administrative rules.
- Oversee research-related accounts, revenues, and expenses, including management of salary allocations funded by grants.
- Act as key resource for research compliance questions/ issues.
- Assist principal investigators (PI) with the development and submission of grant proposals, including budget development.
- Develop, clarify, or redefine VRI research policies to ensure applicability to environment; advise and ensure compliance with policies set forth by Vitalant and external agencies.
- Serve as liaison with administrative and professional personnel at other VRI and Vitalant locations, concerning policies and procedures, Sponsor's terms and conditions, personnel administration, grant administration and budgetary preparation and control.
- Prepare and submit financial reports to sponsors and completes other governmental required reporting.
- Track deadlines for invoicing, reporting and the closeout of each award.
- Complete tasks assigned for month-end and year-end closes.
- Assist with grant and other equipment tracking.

**Knowledge/ Education**

Bachelor’s Degree or professional certifications in research administration or financial administration preferred or an equivalent combination of skills and experience.

Knowledge of financial management, customer service, grants management, information technology and business systems required.

Strong working knowledge of grant writing and administration process required.

Knowledge of federal, state and local regulations impacting the research laboratory environment preferred.

Familiarity with the federal Uniform Guidance, FAR, NIH policies and procedures, eCommons, NSF policies and procedures, FastLane/Research.gov, and current issues in sponsored research administration.

**Experience**

Five years of progressively responsible experience within the field of sponsored research administration with an emphasis in financial management and internal controls required.

Two years of supervisory experience including hiring and performance management required.

Experience with implementation of ERP/grants management software preferred.

Experience with sponsored project compliance reporting in SAM.gov, ESRS, FSRS preferred.
