**Job Summary**

The director is responsible for hiring the designers, choreographer and technicians, conducting regular rehearsals and leading technical rehearsals, supervising front of house operations and backstage during the run, and coordination of strike.

**Duties and Responsibilities**

Working closely with the Music Director and other members of the show’s creative team, the director oversees all aspects of the WIS Upper School Musical, including selecting the musical (along with the Music Director), assisting with musical aspects of the audition process, and casting actors/singers with the MD. The director is responsible for hiring the designers, choreographer and technicians, conducting regular rehearsals and leading technical rehearsals, supervising front of house operations and backstage during the run, and coordination of strike.

As the rehearsal process begins, the director schedules and oversees rehearsals for the cast. During cast rehearsals, the music director accompanies on piano (or practice tracks if available), while the director is responsible for all stage work including the implementation of the choreography. The director is responsible for the coordination of all design and production aspects. Once the production opens, the director runs the front of house, manages backstage activity and any volunteers. After closing, the director is responsible for coordinating the strike of all production categories including the cleaning and return of costumes, props, scenic pieces and any materials that may have been borrowed from other organizations.

This is a contracted, extra-curricular position that will run from approximately the third week in August to the fourth week in November. This position will require regular weekday rehearsals after school, and some weekend rehearsals (as the show gets closer to opening). The show will most likely be selected in May/June by the Music Director and Director, and the licensing rights will need to be procured with the Finance Office.

**Qualifications**
- Bachelor’s degree in Theatre or other related field
- Demonstrated experience directing musical theater productions at the high school level or equivalent, with a proven track record of successful productions.
- Strong knowledge of musical theater repertoire, including classic and contemporary musicals
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with students, colleagues, parents, and community members.

**Working Conditions**

To perform the duties of this job, the employee must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; to exhibit manual dexterity to enter data into a computer; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; to hear and understand speech at reasonable levels, outdoors and on the telephone; to speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly, outdoors and on the telephone; to exhibit physical agility to lift up to 35 pounds; to bend, stoop, climb stairs, and reach overhead.
