Department Summary: The UCLA Department of Statistics & Data Science was founded in 1998 and has become a leader in the development of statistical methodology that exploits the increasing availability of data and computing. Over the last three decades, a new interdisciplinary field centered around the ability to access and analyze data has emerged. The field employs advanced mathematics, statistics, and computer science, in concert with the remarkable growth in the capacity of computers, to achieve insights, and to make predictions and decisions in ways that would have been science fiction in 1985. This new field is driven by data and new problems, often in areas where data has not been important before. Taken together, this synthesis of questions, data, and tools form what has been popularly called “Data Science”. Position Summary:
Salary & Compensation: *UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Salary offers at the top of the range are not common. - Experience in Student Services (college counseling) (required)
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills to communicate clearly to convey information to individuals at various organizational levels and of diverse backgrounds. (required)
- Ability to compose clear, grammatically correct, well-constructed, and persuasive correspondence, reports, and informational materials. (required)
- Basic computing skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel, on a Windows computer. (required)
- Ability to retrieve online information and reports, as well as conduct online research to identify solutions. (required)
- Ability to maintain professionalism and sensitivity in the face of resistance, indifference or hostility. (required)
- Skill in interacting with persons of various social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds, including foreign students who may experience communication problems. (required)
- Strong work ethic with a drive to complete all duties competently, efficiently, and in a timely manner. (required)
- Skill in compiling, analyzing, and organizing information and statistics for reports and reviews. (required)
- Type a minimum of 50 words per minute. (required)
- Knowledge of UCLA online systems for student affairs, such as OASIS/SIS, CIMS, Counselors Desktop, DARS, Message Center, Transferology Lab, and MyUCLA. (preferred)
- Knowledge of immigration and residency policies. (preferred)
