The City Bar Justice Center seeks a full-time Director of Advancement to lead the organization’s fundraising and communications efforts. Reporting to the Executive Director and serving as a member of the Justice Center’s Management Steering Committee, the Director of Advancement will be fully responsible for the design and implementation of an ambitious, multi-year development and communications strategy that inspires a culture of philanthropy and advances the Justice Center’s mission, impact, and growth. The Director of Advancement will oversee a dynamic team of 3 - 4 people and will act as a strategic partner to the Executive Director, ensuring alignment between strategic and resource development goals.

For almost 50 years, the City Bar Justice Center has capitalized on partnerships with its affiliate, the New York City Bar Association, as well as with leading law firms, corporate legal departments, solo practitioners, law schools, the courts, and other stakeholders to address top socioeconomic justice issues such as housing and homelessness, consumer credit, immigration, micro-entrepreneur support, veterans disability benefits, LGBTQ+ civil rights, and a range of other civil legal issues. Just last year, the Justice Center’s dozen civil legal services projects and over 2,200 partnering pro bono attorneys provided high-quality, free civil legal services benefiting more than 25,000 New Yorkers who lack resources to hire private counsel.

**PRINCIPAL AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY**:

- Inspire and lead development efforts for the City Bar Justice Center and promote a culture of philanthropy that motivates the Board, staff, and other stakeholders to engage in development.
- Create and implement a dynamic and aspirational 3-5 year resource development strategy and roadmap.
- Create, implement, and realize detailed, ambitious, data-driven, annual development goals backed up by a commitment to benchmarking and monitoring progress towards those goals.
- Lead and mentor a dynamic team of 3 - 4 people to meet resource development strategy goals.
- Design and implement a moves management protocol for major donors, foundations, and prospects by utilizing projections and stewardship strategies.
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with current, lapsed, and prospective donors, and develop a robust pipeline of new prospective donors and foundations through a rigorous research function.
- Work with the Director of Operations to oversee all aspects of the grants cycle, including proposals, reports and calendar.
- Responsible for all aspects of the annual gala and other events, including creative strategies to increase revenue.
- Oversee all fundraising campaigns, including development and implementation of strategies to increase campaigns’ revenue.
- Partner with the City Bar Fund Board of Directors and the City Bar Justice Center’s new Pro Bono Leadership Council to energize and engage them in service of the Justice Center’s development goals, including by supporting, influencing, and encouraging fundraising activities and by working with the Executive Director to staff the Board’s Development Committee and the new Council.
- Partner with senior leadership and guide communications efforts to tell the story of the Justice Center’s work and impact in fresh, donor-centric ways, including overseeing the development of donor collaterals and multifaceted communications (e.g., social and other digital media, print media, etc.).
- Oversee development and implementation of systems and protocols for a new CRM and donor research tools (Bloomerang & DonorSearch).
- Prepare fundraising reports, budgets, and other documents for management and the Board.
- Serve as a collaborative member of the Justice Center’s larger team and affiliated programs, including via service on the Justice Center’s Management Steering Committee and via close collaboration with City Bar Fund and New York City Bar Association departments, programs, and initiatives, and performing other duties as requested.

**EXPERIENCE, SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS**:

- Bachelor’s degree and at least 7 years of relevant experience, including experience creating and successfully executing ambitious, multi-year development strategies and annual fundraising plans, and experience managing, mentoring and supervising a team.
- Enthusiastic, detail-oriented, self-starter committed to the vision and mission of the City Bar Justice Center with superb judgment and a capacity to multi-task who is creative, thoughtful, and tech savvy, and has a demonstrable capacity for creating and achieving dynamic development goals.
- Demonstrated success in accurately projecting, increasing, managing and meeting fundraising goals.
- Successful track record utilizing moves management to cultivate, solicit, and secure gifts from major donors and foundations.
- Excellent writing and editing, oral communication, and organizational/project management skills; ability to work both ind
