We are seeking a detail-oriented Supervising Medical Records Specialist to join our team.

**Duties**:

- Responsible for review of inpatient medical records to determine the correct principal diagnosis and procedure, secondary diagnosis and procedures.
- Assign appropriate ICD-10-CM codes to selected diagnosis, conditions and procedures and data entering the same into computer abstract using 3M encoder software and sequencing codes.
- Discuss cases in question with appropriate members of the medical staff as needed.
- Participate in quality improvement activities and perform other duties to the department as required.
- Actively complete cases on EPIC WQs.
- Designate appropriate present on admission indicator status on all diagnosis coded.
- Place selected DRG assignments on "hold" status and set aside to facilitate DRG validation.
- Refer and discuss problematic cases to DRG validators or manager for input, prior to finalizing case to ensure accuracy.
- Participate in quality improvement activities and perform other duties of the department as required.

**Requirements**:

- . **Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in a Health Information Administration (HIA) or Health Information Technology (HIT) program accredited by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and six (6) months experience in coding and abstracting medical records in a recognized hospital or health care organization**; or
- . High School diploma or its educational equivalent; and
- . **Completion of a coding, medical record technology or health information technology program approved by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) **and one **(1) year of experience in coding and abstracting medical records in**
**a recognized hospital or health care organization, six (6) months of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; or**
- . Possession of a valid certificate as a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) from the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and one (1) year of experience in coding and abstracting medical records in a recognized hospital or health care organization, six (6) months of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; or
- . Three (3) years of satisfactory experience in coding and abstracting medical records in a recognized hospital or health care organization, one (1) year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.
