Deputy Director of Athletics

Hopkins Athletics is a multidivisional department with 22 programs competing at the NCAA Division III level (primarily Centennial Conference) and two programs (men's and women's lacrosse) competing at the NCAA Division I level (BIG 10 Conference). The department also hosts a variety of robust recreational activities such as club sports, intramurals, and fitness programming.

**Essential Functions and Responsibilities**
- Supports the Director of Athletics & Recreation in leading and managing the daily operations of the department. Serves on the AD's Cabinet.
- Builds and maintains strong relationships with staff, students, families, and alumni.
- Directly supervises multiple functional areas within the department which may include (but are not limited to) Finance, HR, Recreation, & Facility/Event Operations. Additionally, provides leadership and support to a team of sports administrators.
- Serves as the lead sports administrator for select D-III programs.
- Participates in the hiring of staff and coaches; may additionally be called upon to lead hiring searches and/or participate on hiring committees both within, and outside, of the department.
- In collaboration with the Director of Athletics & Recreation, shape strategic priorities for the department and ensure accountability.
- Maintain the department handbooks for staff and student-athletes. Annually audit policies and best practices.
- Partner with Blue Jays Unlimited as appropriate to engage alumni/family/friends of Hopkins Athletics.
- Serves as the liaison to Admissions and supports coaches directly with the recruitment/matriculation of prospective student-athletes.
- In partnership with the Director of Athletics & Recreation, create strategic initiatives that advance the professional development of staff.
- If applicable, it may potentially serve as the department's SWA.
- Lead risk management efforts within the department. Ensure risk management policies align with those of campus, and annually audit policies.
- Coordinates all department staff meetings.
- Represents JHU at Centennial Conference Administrative Delegates Meetings. May additionally serve as a conference sport administrative liaison.
- Serves as a department liaison to other University departments/offices. May be designated to serve on campus working groups/committees.
- In collaboration with the SWA, oversees Title IX equity within the department. Maintains relationships with the Office of Institutional Equity and the Office of General Counsel.
- Represents the department at selected home and away varsity athletic contests. May serve on the game operations team and the Games Committee at championships.
- Travels (as required) to NCAA-sponsored events.
- In the absence of the Director of Athletics & Recreation, serves as the department's lead representative on all internal/external matters.
- Other responsibilities/duties as assigned.

**Key Relationships**

The Deputy Athletics Director is directly supervised by the Director of Athletics & Recreation. The Deputy AD will additionally be expected to build strong relationships with staff, students, families, and alumni, as well as a variety of campus partners.

**Physical Effort/Environment**

General office, athletic facility, and campus environment. Position involves sitting, although frequent movement is necessary. Walking, standing, bending, and twisting are required. Occasionally lifting to 50 pounds may be required. Computer usage involving repetitive and/or wrist motion is required. The position will be a full-time, twelve-month appointment, with frequent evening and weekend work required throughout the year with those dates determined by a supervisor.

**Minimum Qualifications**
- Bachelor's Degree.
- 7+ years of relevant work experience in collegiate athletics administration, or comparatively complex organizations.
- Experience leading diverse teams.
- Ability to work independently.
- Excellent judgment and discretion.
- Demonstrated ability to navigate ambiguity and complex environments.
- Innovative and strategic thinking skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Adaptability.
- Commitment to fostering an environment of inclusivity and belonging.
- Valid driver's license.

**Preferred Qualifications**
- Master's Degree preferred.
- Experience as a college student-athlete or collegiate coach.
- Unwavering integrity.
