Caterpillar Inc. seeks Automation Engineering Specialist at its facility located at 28194 Caterpillar Lane, Washington, IL 61571.

Research and develop new technologies aligned with customer needs for safety, remote control, and autonomy. Create and manage detailed design requirements (system architecture, hardware, software), FMEAs, and validation plans. Solve analytical problems and debug systems that include hardware and software components, including on-machine testing at proving grounds. Interface with project leads, hardware engineers, and software engineers to develop systems and ensure customer requirements are met. Participate in R&D programs through entire lifecycle, from launch to production. Stay up to date with technology, developing increased technical breadth and/or depth of one’s own specialty - being innovative yet able to convert concepts to reality. Collaborate with a distributed, multidisciplinary teams, and effectively communicate ideas and developmental results.

Up to 10% domestic or international travel required to support the development of technology at customer field follow sites.

**Requirements**:
This position requires a bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field and Five (5) years of experience as a Project Engineer, Automation Designer, or related occupation. In the alternative, the employer will accept a master’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field and Three (3) years of experience as a Project Engineer, Automation Designer, or related occupation. Additionally, the applicant must have employment experience with: (1) Perception technology (Ethernet/LVDS cameras, Radar, and/or Lidar) development and/or testing on earthmoving equipment; (2) Datalink protocols (CAN, J1939, ethernet) as applied to earthmoving equipment; (3) ISO regulations and tests for camera and detection systems on earthmoving equipment; (4) Functional safety standards and system requirements (hardware and software); and (5) Linux operating system.
