Secretary to The Corporation Counsel

The Corporation Counsel is the official legal advisor of the City Council and all boards, commissions, and officers of the City. The Corporation Counsel prosecutes and defends all actions and proceedings by and against the City and every department thereof; prepares all ordinances, resolutions, legal papers, contracts, and other instruments for the city; and performs such other legal services as the City Manager or the City Council may direct.

The Secretary to the Corporation Counsel acts as the personal and confidential secretary to the Corporation Counsel and performs work that requires attention to detail and excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. The duties of the position include, but are not limited to:
Prepares letters, memoranda, reports and other materials, often of a complex or difficult nature;
Schedules appointments for the Corporation Counsel and refers visitors to his office or to other officials where appropriate;
Assists in the preparation of reports by assembling data, contacting officials for information and arranging such information in a logical fashion;
Maintains office files and a variety of office records;
Opens mail, answers routine correspondence independently, refers mail to proper officials and attaches file material to facilitate reply by a superior;
Acts as receptionist and gives assistance to visitors by informing them of policy and procedure;
Prepares vouchers for the purchase of supplies and equipment.

Salary is negotiable based on experience, and the City offers an excellent benefits package.
