The mission of the Department of Energy and Environment (DOEE) is to protect and restore the environment, conserve natural resources, and improve the quality of life in the District of Columbia. As the nation's capital city, the District will become a model of environmental protection and sustainable environmental practices. In partnership with other District agencies, the federal government, business groups, non-profit organizations, and residents, the department will help instill environmental awareness through innovation and best practices.

The Environmental Protection Specialist position is located in the Partnering and Environmental Conservation Branch, Watershed Protection Division, Natural Resources Administration, Department of Energy and Environment (DOEE). The incumbent will serve as an Environmental Protection Specialist and will lead the Community Stormwater Solutions Grant program, lead community engagement strategy and events at Kingman Island, support environmental education programs, including the 4th grade Nature Near Schools and 5th grade Overnight Meaningful Watershed Educational Experiences (MWEE) programs, and co-lead the annual Anacostia Environmental Youth Summit.

**Duties and Responsibilities**

The incumbent should have experience with environmental education, including developing and delivering environmental curriculum, designing and implementing programs, and training teachers. The incumbent should demonstrate the ability to work in a team and with a variety of education stakeholders; facilitate conversations on the environment to all ages including adults; plan and execute logistics associated with community-focused events; carefully manage grant expenditures and deliverables; manage competing priorities; develop strategies that address multiple objectives; and communicate clearly in writing and verbally.

**Qualifications and Education**

**Specialized Experience**: Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, one (1) year of specialized experience must be equivalent to the next lower grade in the normal line of progression.

**Preferred Experience**:Experience leading meaningful watershed educational experiences (MWEE) model to elementary and middle school students. Experience training teachers to implement MWEEs. Experience managing grants and contracts. Experience planning and executing community events and other community engagement strategies.

**License and Certification**

The work is performed in an office which is an adequately heated, lighted, and ventilated and in the field.
