**General Characteristics -**
A Policy Analyst is an entry-level classification for the Department of Policy and Legislative Services. An individual is responsible for learning policy analysis and constituent response for a particular area or areas of public policy and legislation contained within assign standing committees of the House of Representatives. Persons in these positions are required to learn and to develop specialized knowledge in areas of public policy research specific to the standing committee(s) to which they are assigned and to be able to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, the results of this research.

**Essential Job Functions -**

Advises a chairman and Members of a standing committee on policy matters.

Serves as a resource of information to Caucus Members on particular public policy issues.

Analyzes pending legislation, amendments to legislation and formal and informal legislative and administrative proposals.

Prepares formal written bill analyses and summary documents for legislation, amendments and other formal and informal legislative and administration proposals.

Presents public policy proposals and issues to Members of the General Assembly and general public.

Prepares legislative documents, including bills and resolutions and amendments to bills and resolutions for use by Members of the General Assembly.

Develops responses to correspondence sent to Members of the General Assembly by outside parties.

Conducts in-depth research into public policy issues.

Assists Members of the House of Representatives to address problems encountered by them and their constituents with departments and agencies of the Executive Branch.

Represents, and provides assistance to, the Committee Chairman and Members of the Republican Caucus at public hearings, boards, commissions, authorities and meetings as assigned.

Prepares recommendations on the scheduling of public meetings and hearings held by standing committees.

Ability to work remotely during regular work hours, where needed, and maintain productivity and cross-boundary communications.

**Minimum Qualifications -**

A four-year degree from an accredited institution of higher learning.

Excellent writing, speaking and organizational skills.

Skill and competence in working effectively with legislators and other legislative staff and with members of the general public.

Pay: From $40,000.00 per year
