The Florida Division of Emergency Management plans for and responds to both natural and man-made disasters. These range from floods and hurricanes to incidents involving hazardous materials or nuclear power. The Division of Emergency Management (FDEM or Division) is the liaison between federal, state, and local agencies. FDEM prepares and implements a statewide Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan, routinely conducts extensive exercises to test state and county emergency response capabilities, provides technical assistance to local governments as they prepare emergency plans and procedures, as well as conducts emergency operations training for state and local government agencies.

The Division serves as the lead agency for the State Emergency Response Team (SERT), whose primary goal is the coordination of the state’s efforts during disaster response and recovery. This coordination is conducted within the State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) in Tallahassee. Additionally, the Division manages the State Watch Office; the 24-hour-a-day operation tasked with providing situational awareness to stakeholders statewide. After a disaster, FDEM conducts damage assessment surveys and advises the Governor of the state of Florida on whether to declare an emergency and seek federal relief funds. It is against this backdrop that FDEM strives to demonstrate its mission of, “Coordinate, collaborate and communicate with our community stakeholders for a resilient Florida” along with our vision of, “Leading the Profession in building prepared and resilient communities”.

**Position Overview and Responsibilities**:
The position serves as the OPS Facilities Support Technician within the Logistics Section of the Bureau of Response, serving as one of the individuals responsible for ensuring the readiness of the Division’s facilities. The duties and responsibilities for the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

- Assist with the day-to-day operation of the local (Tallahassee) warehouse as required. This may include but is not limited to, receiving resources, shipping resources, submitting requisitions, conducting inventory, and maintaining a clean/safe warehouse environment.
- Assist with the operation of the Division’s mail program as required. This may include but is not limited to, receiving incoming mail, preparing outgoing mail, conducting daily courier service in the absence of the mail clerk, and becoming proficient in the operation of all mail room equipment.
- Assist with the maintenance, upkeep, and security of the Rudd and Sadowski buildings as required. This may include but is not limited to, conducting routine inspections of equipment and systems, processing internal and external requests for routine building maintenance/repair, and assisting the Facilities Manager with projects including building renovations and upgrades. Employee must also become proficient with the Division’s Help Desk ticket system, and the DMS TRIRIGA ticket system.
- Assist with the management of the Division’s vehicles, trailers, and all support equipment assigned to the FDEM Fleet. This may include but is not limited to, conducting routine inspections on FDEM vehicles and other resources, transporting vehicles/trailers for routine maintenance or repair, assisting the Fleet Manager with administrative tasks as required, and become familiar with procedures for staff use of State vehicles, and other related resources.
- Perform duties as assigned during activations of the emergency operation center, work non-traditional hours, and travel for extended periods. Employee must be able to deploy anywhere in Florida or the United States for up to two weeks at a time. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature.
- Other duties as assigned by Bureau and Division Leadership.

**Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities**:

- Ability to communicate information in a clear & concise manner, both orally and in writing, with all levels officials of governmental officials.
- Ability to conduct conference calls, training sessions, meetings, and other public meetings to articulate program concepts verbally.
- Ability to travel (on short notice and/or for extended periods) and work in a field environment (remote areas) when necessary.
- Ability to evaluate situations, assess needs, and report the information to the appropriate Leadership levels.
- Ability to remain flexible, problem-solve, exercise independent judgment, and work independently.
