Position Details
The University of Tampa, a medium-sized, comprehensive, private university, is seeking to fill the position of Coordinator of LGBTQ+ Programs and Services in the Office of Diversity Equity and Inclusion (ODEI). This position will develop and implement programs, support students, and advise student organizations. The coordinator oversees strategic planning, program direction, and departmental budget oversight. The coordinator will also develop partnerships to support program awareness. Additionally, this position will directly supervise undergraduate student workers and serve on various campus-wide committees that support programs and resources for LGBTQ+ community members. The coordinator must maintain current knowledge of cultural and theoretical high-impact practices regarding LGBTQ+ community development, retention, and success.
**Responsibilities**:
- Develop, plan, and implement LGBTQ+ signature programs and post-programming assessments. Support the coordination of cultural heritage celebrations, educational experiences, and retreats.
- Advise student organization development, campus support, and educational initiatives.
- Collect, analyze, and share data on the LGBTQ+ community that improves retention and a sense of belonging.
- Develop training for community members that raises awareness and knowledge of the LGBTQ+ community. Train staff and faculty on high-impact practices related to student retention, success, and belonging for LGBTQ+ community members. Collaborate with on-campus partners to enhance the understanding of the LGBTQ+ experience.
- Collaborate with other university offices to design and develop inclusive spaces and culture for members of the LGBTQ+ community.
- Collaboration with Wellness, Counseling, and Health Services to build culturally responsive student support spaces that center around the specific needs of the LGBTQ+ community.
- Implement the “Safezone” curriculum and other advanced forms of training.
- Develop program, marketing, and communication materials, including print, newsletter, web materials, and outreach via social media.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Contribute to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures and backgrounds.
**Qualifications**:
- Bachelor's degree (required).
- Knowledge of LGBTQ+ research and best practices.
- Passion for supporting diverse populations.
- Strong written, oral, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Availability to work evenings, weekends, and occasional overnight travel (for events and training).
- Ability to set priorities, use analytical reasoning, and integrate results into meaningful program activities.
- Demonstrated ability to build partnerships and develop strategic support for university-wide retention goals.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion principles.
- Willingness to embrace new technologies and innovative organizational practices.
Preferred Qualifications
- One year of full-time work experience in Diversity and Inclusion, Student Development, or a comparable area of higher education or non-profit.
- Experience managing student employees.
- Experience facilitating “SafeZone” training.
