**Will Consider Staff Services Analyst**
Seeking a dynamic, self-motivated Associate Governmental Program Analyst (Claims Officer) or Staff Services Analyst (Claims Analyst). Under the general direction of the Staff Services Manager I, the incumbent will work independently as the Claims Officer. The Claims Officer is responsible for the entire investigation and evaluation of potential and filed public liability claims arising in the District and provide litigation support to the attorneys in the San Diego Legal Office.
Assists the San Diego Legal Office in defending the State in tort litigation, coordinates the compilation of documents and evaluates all discovery requests; reviews case files, visits accident scenes; uses photo log on intranet; verifies physical location of signs posted on District sign log; and researches various District files. Confers with all levels of management and other District staff, such as, as-builts plans, special provisions, standard specifications, policies and procedures.
Works with attorneys with trial preparation, quick response situations, scheduling of employees for depositions and trial appearance. Represents Caltrans in Small Claims hearings; reviews claim and prepares defense, attends hearings and represents the defensive arguments to the hearing officer of judge. Arranges for appropriate District Personnel to answer questions or review their files/records. Processes claims filed in the District, which are under $12,500.
Responsible for receiving, tracking and logging all subpoena requests in database. Responds to requests for information from the public and general public information requests. Reviews requests for public records prior to release of information to ascertain if the record is related to possible or pending legal action against the State. Coordinates the review of these requests from the public and tracks the time frames for responses to ensure that the Department is in compliance.
Assists Government Claims Board in investigating over $12,500 claims seeking recommendation.

Working Conditions
**Position located in San Diego, San Diego County.**
While at their base of operation, employees will work in a climate-controlled office under artificial light. However, due to periodic problems with the heating and air-conditioning, the building temperature may fluctuate. Occasional travel is required.
