Forest Fire Training Center Manager

**Duties**:

- Duties listed are at full performance grade GS-11 level.
- Provide program leadership and direction in fire management training for the Forest. Monitor fire management training programs to ensure current training development and technical accuracy.
- Evaluate the Forest's multi resource fire management training needs and coordinates with cooperating agencies to meet these needs through the design and development of comprehensive fire management training curricula, courses, and materials.
- Evaluate effectiveness of technology transfer and adjusts training material/content to incorporate state of the art technology into the needs and objectives of all fire related activities.
- Establish and communicate guidelines and performance requirements to employees; conducts formal performance reviews; and identifies and provides for the developmental and training needs of employees.
- Develop long and short range objectives, establishment of priorities for training staff, development of plans and programs, budgeting of allotments and the integration of fire management and other staff activities.
- Performs supervisory duties 20% or less of the time. Supervises a group of employees performing a variety of duties including Training Specialists, Course/Logistics Coordinators, Administrative Staff and detailers.

- Subject to one year supervisory/managerial probationary period unless prior service is creditable. New USDA supervisors must successfully complete all components of the required training program before the end of their probationary period.
- Minimum of 90 days of wildland firefighting experience is required.
- Willing to live/work in remote locations (volatile/unpredictable).
- Some Fire positions may have Conditions of Employment such as: a valid state driver's license; a commercial driver's license (CDL); pre-appointment and random drug testing; or a physical or medical examination.

**For the** **GS-09 level**: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level; OR a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related; OR an appropriate combination of specialized experience and education (only graduate education in excess of 18 semester hours may be used to qualify applicants for this grade level).
