Summary

The School of Language Studies at the Foreign Service Institute provides essential language and culture training to Department of State and other Federal agency personnel assigned to overseas posts and Stateside. The successful applicant will be a language educator with extensive knowledge of language learning theory, foreign language teaching methods and course design, applied linguistics, teacher training, language testing, educational technology, needs analysis, and training evaluation.

Duties
Manages the design, delivery, administration, and ongoing evaluation of one or more language training programs.
Leads a diverse group of instructors and students towards the implementation of well-balanced learning and instructional strategies, and in promoting and maintaining a diverse and inclusive environment.
Performs a full range of supervisory duties for direct-hire staff of language and culture instructors, students in language training and provides technical monitoring to contractors.
Supervises and leads a professional cadre with expertise and delegated responsibilities in student learning consultation, course development, classroom instruction and proficiency testing.
Designs and implements innovative foreign language training courses and programs to enhance training effectiveness to best address the needs of the agency.

IN ADDITION to meeting one of the basic entry qualifications requirements listed above, you MUST have at least 1 year of specialized experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GG-12 level in the Federal service.

**Qualifying experience must demonstrate the following**:
Experience in leading a team of professionals responsible for student learning, course development, classroom instruction, or proficiency testing.
Experience in providing authoritative guidance to language and culture instructors on updated second language acquisition theories, adult education, and foreign language teaching methodologies.

There is no substitute of education for specialized experience for the GG-13 position.

Objectivity and fairness in judging people on their ability, and situations on the facts and circumstances;
Ability to adjust to change, work pressures, or difficult situations without undue stress;
Willingness to consider new ideas or divergent points of view; and
