Needham, United States Walker Inc Full time

**Summary of position**:Committed to child centered, family focused culturally competent care and strengths-based treatment, the Director of Education is the senior administrator responsible for day-to-day operations for the Walker School. The Director of Education works closely with the Campus Director and the program directors to assure the continuity, safety and effectiveness of all direct care services at the Needham Campus. In addition, the Director of Education has primary oversight of academic curriculum and is responsible for operating all Walker School programs in compliance with Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

**Education and Licensure**

**Required**:Valid license in Moderate Disabilities K-8; Minimum of Master’s degree in special education or related field; minimum of one year of administrative experience.

**Preferred**:Valid license:Special Education Administrator (All Levels)

**Experience**

**Required**: Minimum of five years teaching experience in Special Education setting, At least four years progressively responsible administrative/supervisory experience.

**Preferred**:Working knowledge of state and federal special education law; demonstrated expertise in elementary and special education curriculum development, direct experience with interdisciplinary systems.

**Abilities**

**Required mental abilities**: Ability to be flexible and work collaboratively. Ability to respond to emergency situations quickly and safely. Ability to work in a stressful and fast paced environment. Must understand child development and the impact of emotional, behavioral, and learning disabilities. Must understand issues of confidentiality. Must be receptive to supervision and professional development.

**Required physical abilities**: Ability to work and stand for extended period of time. Job may require bending, stooping, stretching, and lifting. Job requires the ability to perform therapeutic physical intervention as needed.

**Essential functions**:

- Manage and supervise the 12-month, K-8 school program, including personnel and students; Supervise the provision of special education services in the program.
- Oversee educational policies, procedures, and programs to ensure compliance with DESE regulations.
- Responsible to ensure that the services specified in each student’s IEP are delivered; facilitate IEP meetings, as appropriate.
- Ensure the quality and effectiveness of the program curriculum, including implementing Common Core Standards and Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks.
- Ensure the completion of required testing and assessment, including MCAS.
- Maintain a safe environment for children and staff in the K-8 school programs focusing on behavior and classroom management.
- Collaborate with program directors to assure admission of children appropriate to the K-8 school program.
- Collaborate with the Director of Records to assure complete and appropriate documentation of each child’s Individual Education Plan.
- Attend to administrative responsibilities, including organizing and implementing staff meetings and all required trainings.
- Work with the Director of Family Connections and Behavior Support to integrate families/caregivers into the program. Ensure regular meetings of the Parent Advisory Council. Participate and facilitate in ongoing parent communication.
- Coordinate ancillary educational services (OT, speech and language, library services).
- Coordinate all internship and partnership programs with Schools of Education, in conjunction with the Senior Clinical Trainer & Consultant.
- Represent Walker on statewide committees, task forces, etc. as appropriate.
- Work as part of the Operations Management including collaboration with other Directors to ensure optimal residential educational care.
- Be a part of the Administrator On-Call rotation.
- Be an ambassador of Walker and consistently role model Walker’s professional culture.
- All other duties, as assigned

**Supervision to be received**: Directly responsible to and supervised by the Campus Director

**Supervision to be exercised**: Assistant Principal, Educational Coordinators, Occupational Therapists, Speech

Pay: From $75,000.00 per year
