**Duties**:
**As an Enforcement Officer, you will perform the following duties**:

- Serve as an Enforcement Officer deterring and detecting violations of National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) statutes by conducting visible, uniformed patrols and investigations within the officer's assigned area of responsibility.
- Conduct and assist other law enforcement agencies on performing aerial, at-sea and on land patrols, conducting interviews, gathering evidence, conducting search and seizures, apprehending violators, and making arrests.
- Perform uniformed patrol and inspection duties, patrolling and inspecting U.S. and Foreign fishing vessels, gear, records, and catch, to ensure adherence to those laws and regulations governing both private and public fishing.
- Complete operational reports for law enforcement operations, including. Comply with all existing policies, procedures and guidelines (including the use of force policy) pertaining to carry, use, display, safety, and maintenance of firearms and intermediate weapons.

**Note**:The duties are at the full ZA-3 performance level and the ZA-2 is the developmental grade level leading to such performance.

This position will be filled under the DOC Alternative Personnel System (CAPS). This system replaced the Federal GS pay plan and structure. Under CAPS, positions are classified by career, pay plan, and pay band.
The ZA-2 is equivalent to the GS-7/9 grade levels, however is only being advertised equivalent to the GS-9 grade level.
The ZA-3 is equivalent to the GS-11/12.
- A one year probationary period may be required.
- Payment of relocation expenses** is not** authorized.
- **This position is not in the bargaining unit.**

** **This position requires the submission of a Financial Disclosure Form, OGE-450.

**Qualifications**:
**EDUCATION**: There is no positive education requirement for this position.

**SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE**:Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience need not have been in the federal government.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies; knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

**To qualify at the ZA-2 (GS-09) grade level**:
**SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE**: Applicants must possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the ZA-2 (GS-07) in the Federal service. Specialized experience MUST include all of the following:

- Participating in law enforcement patrol and inspection activities to detect violations of laws and regulations to protect marine resources; and
- Assisting in identifying violations/crimes, investigating and apprehending suspects.

**OR**

**SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION**: Master's or equivalent graduate degree in criminology, criminal justice, psychology, or natural resources OR two full years of graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.B. or J.D., if related.
- **OR**

**COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**: A combination of education and experience as described above.
- **Note**:Only graduate education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level may be used to qualify applicants for the GS-09.
- **To qualify at the ZA-3 (GS-11) grade level**:
**SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE**: Applicants must possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the ZA-2 (GS-09) in the Federal service. Specialized experience MUST include all of the following:

- Conducting law enforcement patrol and inspection activities to detect violations of laws and regulations to protect marine resources;
- Identifying violations/crimes, investigating and apprehending suspects; and
- Preparing investigative reports delineating findings from investigative or inspection activities.
