All managers will work to develop ways to enhance and support the experience of all Hopkins students including our first generation and most at-risk students at the University. This includes developing relationships with University partners and finding proactive ways to ensure all students take best advantage of what Hopkins has to offer. The managers will work together to ensure that their teams are well-trained and have the resources they need to get their jobs done including ensuring that student awards are managed efficiently and effectively, that appeals are coordinated, and packaging and auditing is consistent and on schedule.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Financial Aid Team Supervision
- The Financial Aid Manager is responsible for management and daily oversight of a team in the Financial Aid Office at Homewood. This includes but is not limited to,
- Ensuring other aid staff are adequately trained and knowledgeable about office policies and procedures.
- Establishing strategies for managing high volume periods, working collaboratively with a campus partners, including University Financial Aid Shared Services & Compliance, Admissions, Student Billing, Registration, Advising, Student Life and IT to enhance the student experience.
- Supervisory responsibility includes setting annual goals for each team member in conjunction with the Associate Directors, conducting mid-year and annual reviews, holding regular check-in meetings to help manage workload, set priorities, and provide guidance on how to move forward in difficult family situations.
- The Financial Aid Manager will be meet regularly with the Associate Director to update management on progress, training and as more needs arise.
Coordinate Student Award Process
- Coordinating the financial aid review process associated with awarding of aid to new and prospective students including,
- Merit scholarships
- Need-based grants
- State, Private and Federal Student Aid
- Analyze the need of students using Federal and Institutional Methodologies (FM and IM), exercising professional judgment and make recommendations on appeals.
- Work directly with students and families, and have a clear and comprehensive understanding of Federal Title IV and State regulations.
- Set expectations for file reviews and audits of files, insuring that team members are reaching daily, and weekly goals while serving as a resource and a second reader on difficult or less obvious cases.
- Conduct weekly audits to ensure that Hopkins awards as many incoming and returning students as possible by stated deadlines.
- Serve as the first-round resource for second reads and questions from their team.
Title IV Processing & Compliance
- The Financial Aid Manager will work with their teams to counsel families effectively regarding federal requirements and most especially regarding federal and non-federal loan borrowing.
- The Financial Aid Manger will be responsible for oversite of assigned Title IV federal aid processes and or programs.
- Managers will monitor their team caseloads for any undisbursed federal aid to ensure that all requirements are met for timely posting of awarded aid.

- Must have detailed knowledge of Federal, State and Institutional Financial aid regulations.
- Ability to follow-through with policy and procedural implementations and affect beneficial change at all levels of the organization.
- Demonstrated experience in analyzing and recommending significant improvements in departmental operations.

- Ability to work without direct supervision.
- Ability to partner cross-functionally with other departments.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and meet objectives within limited time frames and under tight deadlines.

Additional Information
- This position offers a hybrid work model, candidates must have the ability to participate in meetings, receive and make phone calls, attend periodic in person meetings, and attend in person training and conferences, as needed.
- The successful candidate will have proven leadership skills, knowledge of highly selective college or university settings where some form of institutional methodology is practiced, and familiarity with the stewardship and support of scholarship programs.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree.
- One-year related experience.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
- A Master's Degree is preferred.
- Three to five years of direct experience managing federal, state, institutional & private aid programs within a college or university setting is preferred.
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills, strong student-based counseling experience.
- Prefer experienced with PowerFAIDS user.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
