Job Summary and Qualifications

The Echo Technician knows the meaning of medical prescriptions pertaining to Echocardiography. Technician transports patients, distributes final reports, and maintains data management system for tests. Perform Echoes, imaging, dobutamine tests, bubble studies and other cardiology procedures as assigned. Echo services are available 24hrs a day, 7 days a week, and communicates effectively with other members of the department as well as other departments throughout the facility.

  1. Demonstrates competency in U/S transducers, construction and properties, crystal thickness, wavelength, frequency spectrum, resonance, damping. 
  2. Demonstrates competency in transducers beam configuration, near and far field, focal zone, beam profile. 
  3. Demonstrates competency in pulse characteristics, pulse repetition frequency, pulse repetition period, and spatial pulse length. 
  4. Demonstrates competency in technical factors for diagnostic quality images, focal zone, depth, amplitude dynamic range and compression, analog-to-digital converter (ADC), digital-to-analog converter (DAC), brightness, contrast. 
  5. Demonstrates competency in various display modes, real-time imaging, and echognicity of reflectors, echo textures, and artifacts. 
  6. Demonstrates competency in obstetrics, first trimester, standard measurements (e.g. heart rate, CRL, MSD), maternal anatomy (uterus, cervix, and adnexa), and embryonic anatomy. 
  7. Demonstrates competency in high risk and complicated pregnancy, multiple gestations (chorionicity, amnionicity, and twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome, conjoined), fetal biophysical profile. 
  8. Demonstrates accuracy in Meditech training by: sending work request, display and printing a variety of reports. 
  9. Demonstrates competency with critical behaviors and age specific care. 
  10. Demonstrates appropriate equipment disinfection between patients. 

License / Certifications / Requirements 

  • Graduate from accredited school in Imaging Services/Echo 
  • Current ARDMS or CCI Registry required 
  • Current BCLS certification required • Hands on training required. 
  • Continuing education courses or courses of further documented training are required.

Experience: 

  • Prefer 2 years’ experience in hospital setting along with TEE procedural experience

Shifts: 

Includes working rotational shifts, holidays, and weekends as needed. May be required to participate in "on call" basis staffing. Schedules and work shifts may be changed in respect to patient procedure demands and hospital census. Will be scheduled to work shifts ranging from 4 to 16 hours.

  • Days M-F when needed start times vary between 6:30-8:00am. 
  • Weekend: rotation to help with weekends and call 
  • Week day call 5pm M-F rotation
