SUMMARY
The Machinery Systems Engineer is responsible for coordinating the basic, detail, and functional design for assigned systems and equipment on our new construction shipbuilding and repair projects. They will work on a team with other engineers, work closely with our design and purchasing partners, provide support to the other Engineering and Procurement Departments, and interface with the ship owner and regulatory authorities. Examples of assigned systems and equipment are: diesel engines, fuel oil, lube oil, cooling water, compressed air systems, firefighting systems, bilge and ballast equipment and systems, sanitary supply and drain equipment and systems.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Ensure that all PSI safety procedures, rules and regulations are followed and met.
Assist in development of ship Technical Specifications and proposal drawings. Ensure shipyard standards and US regulations are being applied, make suggestions for cost savings, and review for technical accuracy.
Create, check, and/or review Purchase Technical Specifications for assigned equipment and systems. Provide feedback to design partner if applicable.
Review and approve basic and detail design (functional design) drawings, diagrams, arrangements, and calculations for accuracy against contract specifications, rules and regulations, and general check for mistakes and consistency. Identify potential installation or operational issues. Provide feedback to design partner for revision.
Review maker (vendor) furnished drawings and manuals. Check for accuracy against specifications, rules and regulations, missing/inaccurate scope of supply or information, potential installation or operational issues. Provide feedback to the maker for revision.
Interface with Owner, Class, USCG, and other competent authorities to resolve technical issues.
Participate and provide input to build method planning process. Interface with Planning and Production teams to determine correct timing and discipline for installation of all parts and equipment in assigned systems or areas. Coordinate with design partner and planning to move material when needed.
Create Installation Procedures where needed to explain complex installation processes.
Create and maintain Dock Trial and Sea Trial test procedures.
Participate in dock testing and possibly Sea Trials. Document any issues and revise procedures accordingly. Assist with technical issue resolution as needed.
Provide field support for assigned systems, areas, and equipment. Respond to issues by going onboard and examining the issue. Perform troubleshooting as necessary. Interface with production supervisors or workers to understand the problem. Work with other engineers, production, and procurement to implement a solution.
Maintain working knowledge and monitor development of classification and regulatory rules and requirements pertaining to assigned systems and ship areas of responsibility.
Perform other related duties as required and assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILTY
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
EDUCATION AND EXPEREIENCE
Bachelor's Degree or higher in Engineering is required.

Minimum 3 years’ experience in shipbuilding, construction, or manufacturing.
Proficiency with MS Office and basic CAD systems such as AutoCAD.
Knowledge/experience concerning basic and detail ship design.
Experience with piping systems and standards (ASME, ASTM, DIN, EN, JIS, etc), piping and instrument diagrams, and machinery equipment such as pumps and valves.
Knowledge/experience concerning modern shipbuilding practices is a plus.
Experience with American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) Steel Vessel Rules, IMO Regulations, and US Coast Guard Requirements is a plus.
Experience with 3D modeling software, experience with Tribon or Aveva Marine is a plus.
Experience with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, or Projector and scheduling software such as MS Project or Primavera is a plus.
International experience or familiarity with European and/or Asian Shipbuilding Standards is a plus.

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is an onsite, full-time safety-sensitive position. Standard schedule is 9-hour days Monday through Thursday and 4 hours on Friday. Flexible start times are available. The majority of work will be performed in the Philly Shipyard office. Occasional field work will be required. May be required to work after hours and from home to support meetings with other time zones. Occasional (about 5%) international and domestic travel may be required.
