Full job description Overview The Agency of Education (AOE) is currently seeking a Division Director for our Student Pathways Division. The Director reports to the Deputy Secretary and works in close partnership with the Secretary, Division staff, and key stakeholders in other state agencies and outside of state government. The position involves a large degree of independence, but regular meetings with the Deputy, Secretary, and other leaders ensure that the Director's work is aligned with broader Agency goals and key initiatives.

The work of the Division includes supervision of teams specializing in: flexible pathways, personalization and proficiency-based learning; local comprehensive assessment and curriculum; after school and community schools; career technical education (CTE); adult education and literacy (AEL); work-based learning. Division work also involves data collection, analysis, and reporting; coordination with AOE teams and workgroups outside the Division; and coordination with relevant external partners and stakeholders.

As the Division Director, your responsibilities will include:

Supervise the work of program managers, educational coordinators, and staff within the Division.

Oversee the Division budget, including staffing, programs, and sub-grants.

Develop and disseminate Division policy as indicated by state and/or federal rules, identify best practice with respect to policy implementation, and provide professional guidance to field accordingly.

Oversee grants and contract process within the Division.

Implement accountability framework for the Division.

Serve as a member of the Agency Leadership Team (L-Team), setting Agency-wide local policy and rules, in conjunction with activity of other Divisions within the Agency.

Serve as AOE liaison to the public education field; regional, state, and national organizations; and/or State Legislature as assigned.

Another key aspect of the Division Director's role is monitoring and analyzing proposed Education legislation, determining potential impacts on schools and AOE, and impacts on other state agencies and programs. The Division Director will need to be an effective liaison to our external stakeholders.

Ideal candidates will have significant knowledge of and experience with pk-16 education, including direct experience with at least one of the areas within the Division. Ph.D. or Ed.D. preferred, with significant (3-5 years) experience in supervision, fiscal and/or grants management, and educational policy, applied educational research, or educational leadership development. Ideal candidates will also have a strong understanding of program evaluation methods and/or logic model construction.

Environmental Factors Normal office working conditions generally prevail. Incumbent must be able to interact, work, and deal with Department staff, educators, state, federal, and local officials, and the general public. Evening and weekend work may be required. Considerable travel is necessary for which private means of transportation must be available.

Minimum Qualifications Master's degree in education, public or business administration, or a related field AND three (3) years or more of professional level program development, supervision, or leadership experience in a large public or private organization OR professional level experience in a state or local education agency at or above the school principal level.

Preferred Qualifications Ph.D or Ed.D. Knowledge of and experience with pk-16 education, ideally having licensure corresponding to the area of expertise. Significant (3-5 years) experience in supervision, fiscal and/or grants management, and educational policy, applied educational research, or educational leadership development. Strong understanding of program evaluation methods and/or logic model construction.
