Product Development Engineer

An international manufacturer of automotive parts is looking for a Product Development Engineer in the Western Columbus, OH area. The ideal candidate is experienced in the product life cycle of automotive components from Root Cause Analysis through product launch, has an eye for detail and is capable of applying countermeasures to address any flaws in the production of mechanical and electronic parts. This is a full-time, direct-hire position and offers a competitive salary with excellent benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and 401(k).

Product Development Engineer Responsibilities:

Assist in the organization, planning, and implementation of components production
Utilize customer-provided design documents, proposals, etc. to identify structural concerns and create strong counter-proposals that eliminate all potential manufacturing issues
Conduct CAE result analyses to determine optimal component shape for counterproposals
Fabricate, install, and test components as well as develop new procedures for testing processes
Train plant personnel on quality standards to ensure components conform to customer design and production requirements
Aid in the coordination of plant operation and maintenance activities to ensure optimal function of equipment
Participate in the development of maintenance and operation standards for the plant
Collaborate with other departments to coordinate new project needs and relevant in-house machinery installation
Evaluate and recommend improvements for plant to minimize machinery malfunctions
Train personnel in mechanical maintenance
Produce annual plan for continuous improvement and oversee implementation
Schedule and create documentation for preventive maintenance of equipment
Other duties as assigned

Product Development Engineer Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
Minimum of five years of experience in a manufacturing environment
Experience with CATIA v5 and 3DExperience
Experience with New Model development processes
Proven Root Cause Analysis, PFMEA, FEA experience
Automotive manufacturing experience preferred
Strong leadership skills and the ability to work well with a culturally diverse team
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Experience with Kaizen or other Japanese business models in automotive or other manufacturing environment
Ability to speak Japanese preferred but not required
This position includes working in a manufacturing and/or warehousing work environment. While performing the duties of this job you may be required to intermittently sit, stand, walk, lift up to 25 pounds, lift in excess of 25 pounds with a lift assist, climb stairs, use hands to handle or feel parts/equipment, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend at the waist, talk and hear. You may also be required to use close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and peripheral vision.
