The College of Education is seeking an Accountant II/S to join our team
This position will support the interim chairperson of the Department of Teacher Education in budget management of ~$11.9 million across 16 accounts, forecasting, and personnel management. In addition to collaborating with the interim chairperson, this role will also work closely with the college budget officer and college human resources.
The incumbent will oversee accounting and human resource processing activities, prepare financial reports, provide regular budget and accounting updates, verify the accuracy of financial reports, assist with short-term fiscal administrative procedures, and implement policies and procedures to address financial issues. The incumbent will analyze data, report findings, seek root causes, and develop solutions and recommendations.
Responsibilities include coordinating with College Human Resources to determine budgets, accounting strings, and labor projections, and assisting with the preparation of faculty/academic staff and graduate student appointments and payments and problem-solving payment issues.
The incumbent will review and approve documents such as vouchers, purchase requisitions, and procurement card purchases in EBS, ensuring that expenses fall within the budgets established for programs and faculty and university policy. The incumbent will perform monthly reconciling and forecasting to provide guidance to chairperson for programmatic decision making based on financial status of department.
The incumbent will need supervisory experience to direct and develop direct reports. Will need to coach direct reports on utilizing business processes and procedures.
Additional duties may be assigned to support department administrative operations.

Minimum Requirements
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Accounting; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in supervision, accounting procedures and developing accounting controls, policies and procedures; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. May require certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
Desired Qualifications
University budgeting experience is preferred. Knowledge of MSU systems (EBS, KFS, HR-SAP, Concur, BI, Power BI)
