Position Overview

The College of Education is in search of a Financial Analyst II/S to become a vital member of our team.


This role will assist the interim chairperson of the Department of Teacher Education in managing a budget of approximately $11.9 million across 16 different accounts, engaging in financial forecasting, and overseeing personnel management.


In collaboration with the interim chairperson, the incumbent will also work closely with the college budget officer and human resources department.


Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee accounting and human resource processing activities.
  • Prepare and present financial reports, ensuring regular updates on budget and accounting matters.
  • Verify the accuracy of financial documentation and assist with short-term fiscal administrative tasks.
  • Implement policies and procedures to resolve financial discrepancies.
  • Analyze financial data, report findings, and propose solutions and recommendations.
  • Coordinate with College Human Resources to establish budgets, accounting strings, and labor forecasts.
  • Assist in the preparation of appointments and payments for faculty, academic staff, and graduate students, addressing any payment-related issues.
  • Review and approve financial documents such as vouchers, purchase requisitions, and procurement card transactions, ensuring compliance with established budgets and university policies.
  • Conduct monthly reconciliations and forecasts to provide guidance to the chairperson for informed decision-making regarding departmental finances.
  • Supervise and mentor direct reports, coaching them on effective business processes and procedures.


Additional responsibilities may be assigned to enhance departmental administrative operations.


Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge equivalent to that typically acquired through the completion of a four-year degree in Accounting; three to five years of progressively responsible experience in supervision, accounting practices, and the development of accounting controls, policies, and procedures; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) may be required.


Preferred Qualifications

Experience with university budgeting is preferred. Familiarity with MSU systems (EBS, KFS, HR-SAP, Concur, BI, Power BI) is advantageous.
