This is a bargaining unit position.
The Washington Center for Equitable Growth is a nonprofit research and grantmaking organization dedicated to advancing evidence-backed ideas and policies that promote strong, stable, and broad-based economic growth. Equitable Growth engages with academics and policymakers to better understand economic inequality in the United States and its impact on economic growth. Important elements of Equitable Growth's mission include grantmaking to academic economists and other social scientists to support new research on inequality, mobility, growth, and related issues, as well as work to apply the best available academic evidence to the policy world. Building a stronger bridge between academics and the policy community and elevating researchers and their work with the news media are both key to our work, with the goal of making new research relevant, accessible, and informative to the policymaking process.
Equitable Growth has an immediate opening for an economist/social scientist who is skilled at applying academic evidence to policy debates. Any issue expertise will be considered, but we are particularly interested in candidates who have worked on issues affecting family economic security. This is a hybrid work position. - Manage the policy team to align the team's work with the broader organizational aims.
- Work with VP to drive an agenda for Equitable Growth's policy and advocacy programming, including policy materials, reports, and events.
- Ensure work is on track to meet stated organizational and program objectives, key results, and funding deliverables.
- Advancing evidence-backed policy and policy proposals by doing policy-relevant research and applying the best available academic research to policy debates.
- Engaging with people in government as well as other stakeholders to explain the evidence behind certain policy ideas or concepts.
- Connecting with people at other think tanks and advocacy organizations to collaborate on policy work.
- Supporting scholars in the Equitable Growth network and beyond to make work relevant for policymakers.
- Representing Equitable Growth to the media, policymakers, and other outside stakeholders.
- Attending academic conferences and maintaining relationships with the academic community and other professional economists and policymakers.
- Supporting Equitable Growth's competitive grant program and commissioned research series by providing intellectual guidance, solicitations, and review as necessary.
