Description:
Implement, under department manager's oversight, operational programs and procedures across the Cardiopulmonary Department. Collaborates with management and colleagues to plan, develop, and implement educational programming for colleagues across the Cardiopulmonary Department. The incumbent acts as a key resource in the orientation and continuing education of colleagues.

Will serve as a clinical expert and is expected to maintain skills and competencies to provide direct patient care. In addition, the Coordinator will assist with clinical policy review, delegation protocol development, and Joint Commission readiness. The Coordinator applies innovative teaching strategies and methodologies to provide for cost-effective and well-executed clinical education program for the Department.

Oversee Cardiopulmonary department services in the absence of Department Manager and/or Supervisors. Perform therapies and procedures to maintain clinical practice and assessment skills on general floors and critical care units.
Leadership
  • Participates on-call rotation with other department Managers
  • Able to support direct patient care and completes other duties as assigned by Manager or Director
  • Supports shift Charge RTs as needed
  • Teaches, demonstrates, and re-enforces clinical practices
  • Works with department Director, Manager, Supervisors and Medical Directors to coordinate planning and documentation of department activities, appropriately utilizing resources of the department
  • Perform EHR audits to validate documentation compliance and charge capture.
  • Provide feedback to Managers and Supervisors about colleague competency
  • Ensures that processes and services are continuously monitored for quality, cost effectiveness, and efficiency. Engages in process and quality improvement activities. Makes and implements recommendations to improve operational efficiency and to implement new services for areas of responsibility.
  • Will serve as Department Super User and Credential Trainer
Stewardship
  • Functions as a clinical staff contact for department equipment and systems troubleshooting.
  • Coordinates the availability and serviceability of department medical equipment and supplies.
  • Develop and maintain dashboard showing active status and location of all essential departmental equipment and establish par level for physical inventories.
  • Troubleshoot and provide guidance on the proper use of department equipment and coordinates repairs when appropriate with BioMed.
  • Ensure urgent device corrections, and equipment recalls are acted upon in a timely manner for the safety of patients and colleagues.
  • Ensure medical equipment involved in or suspected to be involved with adverse patient interactions is processed in accordance with TH policies and procedures.
  • Develop and maintain instruction sheets and equipment labels as needed.
  • Meet with vendor representatives as necessary to become aware of product marketplace and opportunities for THMH to improve patient care delivery, cut costs and improve staff safety and job satisfaction.
Educations and Professional Development
  • Recognized as a clinical expert in all areas as defined by the Respiratory Care Practice Act and is assigned to coordinate and/or provide staff learning needs for orientation, in-service training, competency processes, and program development for existing and new services.
  • Responsible for the assessment, development, implementation, and evaluation of education that assures clinical practice standards for Cardiopulmonary Department.
  • Assures new staff orientation, precepting, competency needs and provides one-on-one instruction in classroom, skill lab, and patient care settings.
  • Develops and utilizes available resources in providing for the educational needs of staff by: assist staff therapists in their professional growth and competence.
  • Evaluates educational activities and modifies programs as needed.
  • Employs principles of adult learning, preceptorship, and curriculum building skills to assure sufficient opportunity for colleagues to complete required and elective educational offerings.
  • Acts to promote and advocate for the advancement of evidenced based clinical practices for Respiratory Care Services, assists with developing Policy & Procedure for standards of care, contributes to performance improvement surveillance, develops curriculum, presents at lectures and conferences.
