Responsibilities: The Policy Analyst will work with the Director of Advocacy and Executive Director on legislative priorities. The Analyst will have the opportunity to work both individually and as part of a team on specific projects including the development and implementation of a legislative campaign in support of waste prevention, plastic pollution and recycling bills in the state legislature. Duties include:

·         Research and analysis to support policy development

·         Advocating before the State Legislature, at regulatory hearings, and stakeholder meetings

·         Drafting position letters, public testimony, fact sheets and policy papers

·         Representing CAW in various coalitions, professional conferences, and public engagement events

·         Working with the CAW team on communication and development needs

 

Qualifications: Successful candidates will be self-motivated, public-interest minded, organized, and detail-oriented with good humor necessary among staff in a small office. Other qualifications include:

·         Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

·         Some familiarity with California legislative and regulatory landscape and process

·         BA/BS degree in environmental studies, public policy, or a related field; knowledge of waste reduction or the legislative process is a plus

·         Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and online research tools is necessary

·         Comfort with public speaking and engaging with diverse audiences

·         Experience working in fast-paced environment

·         Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities is essential

·         Knowledge of California environmental and public policy is preferred

·         Environmental commitment is a must

 

Compensation: Salary commensurate with experience, $40-50,000 and $60-72,000 annually. We offer a competitive benefits package including medical, dental, paid vacation, paid holidays and sick time.
