San Francisco, United States Hayden AI Full time

About Us

At Hayden AI, we are on a mission to harness the power of artificial intelligence and machine learning to transform the way governments and businesses address real-world challenges.

From optimizing bus lane and bus stop enforcement to pioneering digital twin modeling and beyond, our innovative mobile perception system empowers our clients to accelerate transit, enhance street safety, and drive forward a sustainable future.

The Cloud Team

At the heart of Hayden's urban intelligence products and edge devices lies our dynamic Cloud team. Every day, these devices collect millions of real-world events as they navigate the physical environment. Our Cloud team tackles the challenge of capturing, storing, organizing, and processing this vast data stream to unlock its full value for Hayden, our partners, and our customers.

Hayden's Cloud tech stack is comprehensive, spanning from low-level cloud infrastructure to user-facing frontends, customer business logic processing, and powerful data analytics. Data privacy is paramount, and it's a core principle woven into both our technical architecture and development processes.

Job Overview

As our team scales, we're seeking a hands-on Engineering Manager to join our Cloud Engineering Leadership. You'll lead a team of talented software engineers who are responsible for a critical collection of cloud applications and services that power Hayden's products.

What the job involves

  • People: Motivation is key to having a high performing team. You will inspire strong performers to go even further. Your actionable feedback will help low performers to rise up. You will use company goals to set clear goals for your team members. You will hold the team accountable to them and provide support to achieve them.
  • Execution: You will establish and run a day-to-day process within the team that will allow the team to ship high quality products while adhering to a predictable release schedule. You will have to pragmatically combine elements of different software development methodologies to achieve that. You will mitigate risks, eliminate bottlenecks, and focus relentlessly on productivity.
  • Product: We are a young company, and you will have a strong say in how the product is defined. We expect you to be a customer voice in front of the team and a team voice in front of the customer. You will work closely with Product Management and Customer Success organizations to accomplish that.
  • Technical: A highly technical product requires hands-on leaders. We expect you to be in the weeds, interacting with engineers on pull requests and design documents. You do not have to be the fastest coder in the team, but you will have to lead from the front.

You have

  • A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 2 recent years in front-line management.
  • Expertise in Golang or Python.
  • A strong understanding of distributed systems, databases (PostgreSQL), and event-driven programming (Kafka, SQS, SNS).
  • Exposure to frontend development technologies (e.g., React).
  • Experience with AWS/cloud technologies (Terraform, EKS/K8s, S3, EC2, Cognito, RDS, etc.) (a plus).
  • Strong people skills: empathy, conflict resolution, mentorship, and team building.

Benefits and Perks

There are endless learning and development opportunities from a highly diverse and talented peer group, including experts in a wide range of fields (AI, Computer Vision, Government Contracting, Systems & Device Engineering, Operations, Communications, and more)

  • Options for medical, dental, and vision coverage for employees and dependents (for US employees).
  • Flexible Spending Account (FSA) and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account (DCFSA).
  • 401(k) with 3% company matching.
  • Unlimited PTO.
  • Daily catered lunches in our San Francisco office.

Hayden AI is committed to creating a diverse and inclusive environment that fosters learning from each other. We celebrate people of diverse backgrounds, experiences, abilities, and perspectives. We are an equal opportunity employer and are committed to providing a work environment free of harassment and discrimination. Hayden AI is also committed to working with and providing reasonable accommodations to individuals with disabilities. Please let your recruiter know if you need an accommodation at any point during the interview process. To all recruitment agencies: Hayden AI does not accept agency resumes. Please do not forward resumes to our jobs alias, Hayden AI employees or any other company location. Hayden AI is not responsible for any fees related to unsolicited resumes.

Compensation Range: $190K - $215K
