Job Description

Position Summary:

The Medical Director of Renal Services will be a nephrology-trained physician that works in dyad partnership with the Director of Renal Services to manage our patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) across Lakeside, Regal and Affiliated Doctors of Orange County (ADOC) medical groups. Our renal disease-management program focuses on patients with CKD stage 3b or higher and includes patients on renal replacement therapy (RRT). This later patient population includes more than 1,000 of our patients receiving RRT.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • It is desired for the Medical Director to take holistic view in managing this patient population, working to ensure our patients with CKD have access to and are receiving relevant dietary counseling, kidney replacement therapies, transplant evaluations, vascular access surgery, and psychological and social care.
  • Achieving these goals will be in partnership with the Director of Renal services, however, it is expected that the Medical Director will serve as a subject matter expert on best practices and effectively incorporate guideline-directed therapies into standard protocols.
  • Establishing strong working relationships with our contracted ambulatory dialysis centers, peritoneal dialysis vendors, and community nephrologists is a vital component of the role.
  • Ensuring patients benefiting from nephrology consultation are referred early and followed appropriately longitudinally by nephrologists within our network is critically important as well.
  • Development of standard protocols and leveraging data to track and drive care in line with best practices and guideline-directed therapy is also a responsibility of the Medical Director.
  • Ensuring our patients with CKD have appropriate goals of care discussions and documentation of such discussions is imperative as well.
  • Day-to-day work will entail ensuring team members are effectively engaging our patients with CKD in both the ambulatory and inpatient settings as relevant, with a particular focus on avoiding unnecessary acute care utilization.
  • All additional duties as directed by management.
For California Residents Only: The salary range for California residents is $250,000 to $375,000 annually. Salary Range is defined as total cash compensation at target. The actual range and pay mix of base and bonus is variable based upon experience and metric achievement . Requirements

Education and / or Experience:
  • Active board certification in nephrology
  • Active California medical license and current Federal DEA
  • Possess a strong clinical skillset in nephrology and has experience managing patients with CKD and on RRT longitudinally.
  • Have experience engaging proactively and effectively with dialysis center leadership, and driving improvement for CKD and RRT patient populations from a quality, operational and/or financial standpoint.
  • Desired candidates will embody a sense of accountability and ownership of this patient population, work collaboratively with the Director of Renal Services and espouse a continuous-improvement mindset, be detail-oriented, tactical, and have strong communication skills.
  • Computer literate with knowledge and experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and Access.
