Project Assistant, Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center

The Atlantic Council seeks a talented, dynamic, and entrepreneurial individual for a position as Project Assistant with a broad focus, including Central America and regional economic development in its Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center. The candidate will support the Center's programming on these portfolios, as well as help with additional lines of work as needed. They will be deeply involved in the day-to-day operations of the Center's growing Central America and economic development work, serving as crucial support and bridge between international and local stakeholders, and will help elevate the profile of the Center's work on these issues.
The Project Assistant will form a key part of the team and work closely with the Deputy Directors, Senior Fellows, and senior director of the Center in an innovative atmosphere. This position requires collaboration with colleagues in other regional and thematic centers across the Atlantic Council. Additionally, this position is for an initial period of 6 months, with the possibility of renewal.
The ideal candidate is passionate and an entrepreneurial self-starter. They demonstrate interest, background and experience on Central America and regional economic development issues.
This position is based in our Washington, DC, headquarters, requiring a minimum of 4 days per week in office. The Atlantic Council offers a competitive compensation package commensurate with experience, education, and organizational equity, with offers from $24.04 to $26.44 per hour. Applications submitted by October 4, 2024, will be prioritized for consideration.
Job responsibilities
* Support the Center's existing Central America and regional economic development programming and play a pivotal role in the day-to-day operations for the Center's growing Central America work, focusing on the development of programming and fundraising, in collaboration with Center leadership;
* Serve as a bridge between international and local stakeholders, including multilateral organizations, financial institutions, international political groups, country representatives, and others;
* Support the preparation for meetings with important Center and Council constituencies, such as US and Latin American policymakers, business leaders, and civil society representatives;
* Help coordinate programming and events, including written products, with a particular focus on Central America/regional economic development and additional programming, as needed;
* Produce relevant documentation and summary of meetings both for internal record keeping and external knowledge sharing;
* Brief the Center's leadership on current events in Central America, as well as other events that may affect the region;
* Proactively look for potential areas of collaboration within the Center and with other Atlantic Council centers.
Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in economics, international affairs, or international development;
* 1-2 years of combined professional experience in international affairs, public policy, and economics;
* Knowledge of political, economic, and social issues in Central America; experience living, working, or studying in the region a plus;
* At least 1 year of research experience on Central America/regional economic issues;
* At least 1 year of experience in project or event management;
* A demonstrated ability to work efficiently and collaboratively with both junior-level and senior-level colleagues;
* Native-level Spanish-language and English-language skills (writing, editing, and oral communications), and superior communication skills;
* Proven ability to balance multiple tasks in a dynamic environment;
* At least some experience with WordPress, Canva, InDesign, and others to produce and edit visual content such as videos, photos, infographics, and others;
* At least some experience with Salesforce or a similar grant and database management;
* Excellent organizational, logistical, and administrative skills;
* An understanding of Washington policy environment.
