Roles & Responsibilities:

This is an exciting opportunity to join the pre-clinical team at the Seaver Autism Center, which is composed of several pre-clinical research groups. Studies in these groups employ genetic and/or neuroscience tools to understand the underlying causes of autism spectrum disorder, with the goal of identifying new targets for treatment.

The Associate Research II will work with the PI and researchers to run on-going projects and will be responsible for coordinating systems and processes to ensure the lab space runs as efficiently as possible. S/he will be also responsible for managing a biospecimens and animal colony including maintaining high standards for sample tracking, quality control, and documentation. S/he will be also responsible for inventory and lab safety. The Associate Research II will be also responsible for managing the ordering system and placing orders for each of the research groups as per their request, as well as being independent on ordering and managing the stocks of shared and routinely used supplies. In addition, S/he will be responsible for operating and maintaining automated lab equipment and will work with colleagues to evaluate new equipment and technologies. The Research Associate will effectively communicate with all levels of staff to optimize workflow.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts experiments using advanced research techniques specific to subject matter of the research project.
  • Analyzes and assists in interpreting moderately complex results.
  • Performs assays to support research studies.
  • Assists in new and unexpected research experiments and techniques.
  • Assists in the collection, analysis and review of experimental data for publication and presentation.
  • May train less-experienced research staff and postdoctoral fellows in research techniques and use of equipment.
  • Performs other related duties

Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in sciences or related field or equivalent experience
  • 2 years in a research environment or 1 year plus Masters Degree in sciences or related field
