Psychiatric Social Health Technician

Job Description
Purpose of Position:
Under the direct supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse, the Psychiatric Social Health Technician (PSHT) performs therapeutic and mental health-related activities, maintains direct contact with individuals experiencing social and emotional challenges, and assists clients with daily living activities. The PSHT ensures a well-maintained physical, social, and clinical environment.
Responsibilities:
Responsible for the delivery of safe, quality patient care and services under the direction of a Registered Professional Nurse in accordance with Bellevue Hospital's policies and procedures.
Utilize crisis or de-escalation intervention practices when necessary and appropriate.
Collaborate as a member of a designated care team to achieve patient care goals.
Receive assignments from the Registered Nurse and accept delegated aspects of care delivery for individual patients/families.
Introduce yourself to the patient/family and explain the care or services that will be provided.
Gather and document patient data on the flow sheet, including:
- Temperature, Pulse, Respiration
- Blood Pressure (BP)
- Height, Weight
- Restraints/Seclusion Monitoring
Report patient observations and data to the RN consistently throughout the shift.
Ensure patient privacy at all times by:
- Drawing curtains/closing doors during care
- Maintaining patient dignity and not discussing patient information in public areas
Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor and/or designee.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Six (6) months of satisfactory experience assisting patients with daily living and therapeutic activities and performing other related functions in a hospital or a health care setting; and
2. Holds or obtains a valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA) within sixty (60) calendar days of appointment to the title.
