Psychiatric Social Health Technician

Under the direct supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse, the Psychiatric Social Health Technician performs therapeutic and other mental health-related activities, maintains direct contact with individuals who have social and emotional problems and handicaps, and interests clients in daily activities of living, ensuring a properly maintained physical, social, and clinical environment.
Responsibilities:- Delivers safe, quality patient care and services under the direction of a Registered Professional Nurse in accordance with Bellevue Hospital's policies and procedures.
- Collaborates with team members in achieving goals as a member of a designated care team.
- Receives assignment from the Registered Nurse and accepts aspects of care delivery for individual patients/families as delegated.
- Introduces self to patients/families and explains what will be done for/with each patient.
- Gathers patient data and documents on flow sheet, including temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, height, weight, and finger stick.
- Reports observations of patients/data to the RN consistently throughout the tours.
- Ensures patient privacy at all times, drawing curtains/closing doors while providing care, and not discussing patients in public areas.
- Reports patient experience of pain/discomfort immediately to the RN.
- Six (6) months of satisfactory experience assisting patients with daily living and therapeutic activities and performing other related functions in a hospital or a health care setting.
- Holds or obtains a valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA) within sixty (60) calendar days of appointment to the title.
