PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

To successfully provide children with a nurturing, safe and healthy environment while supporting the Early Childhood Educator.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

* Knowledgeable in the Developmental Milestones for your classroom.
* Communicate with all parents on the development of their child.
* Follow weekly lesson plans, including: sensory, stories and music, art, science, math, small and large motor stimulating learning in developmental areas, physical, social, emotional and intellectual.
* Assist in ensuring the best interests of all the children are being met.
* Follows the Bay City Public Schools Early Childhood Centers Employee Handbook.
* Follows all Licensing Rules for Child Care Centers through the State of Michigan Department of Human Services.
* Knowledgeable in the Bay City Public Schools Early Childhood Centers Program Guide and Health Policies and Procedures.
* Have current Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED and First Aid certification.
* Follow the proper OSHA procedures for blood-borne pathogens.
* Participate in mandatory continuing education staff meetings so to improve and expand on their knowledge.
* Staff have knowledge of all emergency procedures and practice them routinely.
* Arrive to work on time, organized, prepared and ready to meet the children's needs.
* Staff limit their conversations to child friendly, respectful conversations
* Staff maintains professional attitudes in their demeanor and in their personal relationships while on the job.
* Staff contributes to joint responsibilities.
* Staff is patient with children, interacting in a positive manner at the children's level while engaging in play.
* Staff greets parents, children, visitors and other staff in a friendly and pleasant manner. Note any pertinent information or instructions.
* Staff keeps an open communication with the parents that builds mutual understanding and greater consistency for children.
* Staff shares ideas and accepts suggestion to help contribute to the total program.
* Staff consistently respond to children's needs for food or comfort, this enabling the children to develop trust.
* Children are praised for their accomplishments and helped to feel increasingly competent.
* Staff respect children's curiosity about each other. At the same time, adults help to ensure that children treat each other gently.
* Staff send daily notes home to inform the parents of the child's day in the infant, wobbler and Toddler classrooms.
* Staff model language through communication, singing and reading books.
* Staff encourage brain development through touch, sound, movement, sensory exploration, and visual experiences.
* Staff view each child as a unique person with an individual pattern and timing of growth and development.
* Have an overall awareness of what all children in the classroom are doing at any given time
* Ability to follow an established plan for group instruction.
* Assist with keeping the room clean and orderly
* Staff record feedings, diaper changes, medicine, and sleep patterns on children under one (1) year of age on the child's weekly sheets.
* Toys that are mouthed are put in the dirty toy bin when a child is finished playing with it.
* Staff place infants in their cribs on their back to sleep. Cribs are the only approved sleeping equipment.
* After meals, all high chairs/chairs are washed with the three step cleaning process. Floors are to be swept after each meal. High chairs are taken apart minimally on a weekly basis.
* Staff enjoy working with children.

DEMENSIONS OF POSITION

To Assist the Early Childhood Educator in supervising children and personnel assigned to the designated classroom under the guidance of the Center Administrator.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Meet the minimum requirements as stated by the State of Michigan Department of Human Services Bureau of Children and Adult Licensing; licensing rules for Lead Caregiver.

* Must be 18 years of age
* Be of responsible character and suitable to meet the needs of children.
* Have a current physical and TB
* Have a love for children.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSE, REGISTRATIONS

Current First Aid, Adult and Pediatric CPR, and AED certification

COMPUTER SKILLS

Communication via e-mail.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, technical procures, program guides, health policies and licensing requirements

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents and community; skill in oral and written communication. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements, Board of Education policies, and applicable State and Federal laws.
