What You'll Do:

Responsible for the orthopedic casting, bracing, and splinting of patients in an outpatient setting on the order of referring clinician.

ACCOUNTABILITIES: (include, but are not limited to)

Applies, removes, and adjusts plaster and fiberglass casts and splints in accordance with physician and/or physician assistant orders.
Applies and adjusts prefabricated splints and braces.
Assesses patient comfort as it relates to their casting or splinting. Assists with comfort measures and notification of appropriate clinical staff members.
Removes sutures and staples.
Provides wound care and incisional dressings.
Assists physicians with clinical procedures such as the closed reduction of fractures.
Fits and trains patients to use axillary crutches and canes.
Educates patients on the care and use of orthopedic casts, splints, braces, and mobility aids.
Maintains inventory of cast room materials and places orders for supplies when necessary.
Helps train new staff members in cast room procedures.

KNOWLEDGE:

Familiarity with HIPAA, insurance regulations, policies, procedures and other regulatory policies
Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe working environment
Medical office procedures, policies, practices and medical terminology, telephone protocol and professional etiquette
Electronic medical systems, including Athena/Centricity, and Medi-Tech, PM and office management systems and procedures
Outstanding knowledge of MS Office
Working knowledge of office equipment

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: High School Diploma or GED

EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 1 year cast room / medical office experience

CERTIFICATE / LICENSE: Orthopedic Technician and / ATC Certification Preferred
